Ok so i am not the tech savy guy at all,i just got this wonderful gadget as a present.Problem is i previously got ipod earlier and didnt even touch it because of I had to download stuff and buy on itunes and whatever..turned me off completely. This time however its different as i can read books on this thing, which is why i love it and cant wait to load it up for my vacation..Plus its soo cool ;)

Anyways anyone get one already or is a tech wizard to give us tips on what to buy and do..Maybe even reccomend some apps(which i still dont know how to get, online or from one of their damn stores or what!!):wallbang:

Another thing i will be using this for would be pics and movies, especially since my work involves being alone for soo long in hotels that have nothing useful on tv.People do share...

Sell it. :D

Jokes aside, I think that gadget would be very handy if you live an a country that supports good 3G network. You can easily browse the internet, Google Maps, etc etc while on the move.

With regards to entertaining you at the hotels, obviously I think a laptop will do much better. But on the go, on the move, I think iPad is really good.

it's made by apple so lots of people who know nothing about them automatically think they're great and better than anything else out there?!

Been avoiding apple products since my string of ipods all died :D

I'm sure you'd run into a ton of problems and see how useless it can become if you have one, but just playing around with my friend's, it's pretty entertaining. It has a pretty big and high-quality screen, the touch part is great for gaming, it's faster than my netbook, and it's all around more personal. For anyone that hasn't, it's quite a feeling when you hold one for the first time.

At least your netbook can run two applications simultaneously :p

iOS4, baby. And for the record, my netbook can barely run minesweeper.

Haha what the hell do you have, the first netbook ever built??

Don't you love how Apple pretend like multi-tasking is a breakthrough innovation, like it has never been around? How about the way they present the idea of Video Chat as revolutionary?? LOL I used to be obsessed with Apple, but they are becoming more and more of a joke with every product they release!

Steve Jobs always claims that they "might be the last to the party, but they'll be the best." I can confirm that. Cut copy and paste came late to the iPod/iPhone but I use it and it's pretty good.

We had to wait for multitasking but supposedly it won't be sucking battery life. Video chat, not a new concept, but they got it perfect with the use of two cameras.

I sound like an Apple fanboy...

Ziyad,

1- Install iTunes
2- Create an itunes (apple) account - make sure it's in the United States store using a fake US address or an Aramex forwarding address if you have one. You don't need to enter Credit Card details.
3- Download Spirit Jailbreak (http://spiritjb.com/) - connect your ipad and Jailbreak it. This will open up the device for hacks and cracks.
4- You will have an application called Cydia. Add a new source called http://cydia.hackulo.us and install Appsync for iPad and Installous (I'm sure you'll have questions about this step)
5- Run installous, pick any app you want, and download it for free. Thousands to choose from.
5b- Alternatively you can download apps from http://apptrackr.org/ and add them to iTunes then sync
6- For pics and movies, just add them to iTunes. If itunes doesn't support the format you are using you need to convert it to mp4 using your prefered converter.
7- I recommend the App Zinio for reading magazines if there are any you like, you can subscribe to them. There are a few good games as well, just browse apptrackr's iPad section by popularity and you'll find them.

Pass by my office for a chat if you'd like to go through it... I'm near the exhibition center.

I don't think cell phone reception or 3G can handle video chats. Not Apple's fault.

Hahaha really?? That's why I do it all the time on my Motorola Droid using Fring. Please don't make shit up to defend Apple, now you are just sounding ignorant...

A sign of things to come. One of the biggest new additions to the iPhone 4G is the forward facing camera, but anyone who thinks ATT is going to be able to support video conferencing is fooling themselves. The network can't even handle voice, how do you expect it to handle video? I have a feeling the Evo is going to embarrass the new iPhone.

As for working only on WiFi, I don't put that on Jobs. The carrier must have said no to it. But the thing is, if the iPad had been with any other carrier, the same thing would have happened. 3G is not meant for video conferencing. That's what 4G is for.

Sorry. :rollani:

3G, 4G, Wifi are different data transmission technologies. They can all transmit video. Technically speaking, even a 15 year old 56k modem can transmit video. The difference is the quality, size, and latency of the video stream. The 4G's lack of video calls is probably a combination of Jobs' need for perfection to get the best quality possible and AT&Ts unwillingness to overload their 3G network. On a cellular network, voice, data, and video all share the same bandwidth, but 1 video call can take up as much as 10 voice calls. ATT would have to drastically upgrade their network to support the higher bandwidth requirements.

Disclaimer: I hate Apple. I love the iPhone. I don't care about the iPad.

Not to get in a whole iPhone debate, but what exactly do you love about the iPhone that my Droid or the new Sprint EVO cannot do? I just do not see how people in the US can sign up for the shittiest network available to get a phone that has less features than those on better carriers??

Then again, the iPad was almost unanimously critiqued as a useless failure from Apple by numerous tech websites, but look how many sold. I think Jobs should stop spending money. Just create the iShit...I honestly believe they could throw shit in a bag and there would be a 2 mile long line at every Apple store on the release day...

Mods, could we change this to a complete "Apple" thread?

Until then, I'll stick to iPad. The claim that it is just an oversized iPod is absurd. Its screen alone makes it capable of so much more. Videos, pictures, games, and pretty much anything visual are endlessly better. I'll admit that its lacking in certain relatively simple things (camera, keyboard, Flash, USB, etc.) Nonetheless, it still does what I would want it to do. No one is ever going to use a tablet like a laptop since it doesn't have a real keyboard and is a bitch to type on. Yet, its mail client is awesome, internet is sufficient, decent books app, and it plays music, just to list a few. Keeping in mind that no one is going to use the iPad for serious projects, it is perfect for the casual user. I'd say that the useless product isn't the iPad anymore, but the iPod.

So basically you are saying it does video, pictures and games on a bigger screen than an iPod but it's NOT an over-sized iPod?? LOL if your iPod can't do video, pictures and games, then you got ripped off my friend...

You do realize you are blindly defending this product and not making any sense whatsoever, right?? You were right when you said you are an Apple fanboy, because you sound exactly like one!

I actually like the way the iPad looks, but for $500 on the lowest-end model, without 3G?? That thing is worth $250 at the most.
