SV Werder Bremen will visit the Giuseppe Meazza stadium for the third time in their history, but their match against FC Internazionale will mark the first time that the two teams have met in European club competition.

Bremen have played AC Milan twice at San Siro in their history, losing narrowly on both occasions, with their most recent visit coming in the group stage of the 1993/94 UEFA Champions League, the last occasion that the German side have played in the competition. On that occasion Paolo Maldini put Milan ahead three minutes into the second half only for Mario Basler to equalise shortly afterwards. However, Fabio Capello's men had the final say with Dejan Savicevic scoring the winning goal. Overall, Bremen have played six matches on Italian soil, winning twice, drawing once and losing on three occasions.

Despite winning the home leg of their two-legged 1996/97 UEFA Cup final encounter against FC Schalke 04, Inter lost the tie on penalties, but since then have won four and drawing two of their six matches against German-based teams. Their most recent experience against German opposition came in the 2002/03 UEFA Champions League second group stage, where they won both of their engagements against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Two goals from Luigi Di Biagio set up a 3-2 home win before Inter won 2-0 away in Germany following strikes from Obafemi Martins and Emre Belözoglu.

Yes it is indeed a blessing that we're playing Werder when they're going through a rough patch, for sure though they can still spring a surprise, but if we continue the sort of attacking spurts that we displayed versus Chievo then you cannot expect anything less than 3 points. I sincerely hope Mancio tries Recoba with Adriano for the midweek game though.

I hope Mancini rests Adriano from the Chievo game until the this one...If he is tired we need him at his best in this one.I really hope Recoba partners him in this one and we see Emre coming in sometime if not starting.

Also please rest Miha NOT because he might be tired but because i am tired of him...

Canna's departure is already hurting us.Hopefully Cordoba comes back as strong as ever in this one.

I wanna say that Bremen play some nice give and go football and they know each other very well,so we must be very careful of that especially with our stationary looking defence...Hopefully Mancini concentrates on defending more in this game because we know the midfiled and attack know their job well and have been creating chances..we just cant afford to loose the battle on the other side of the pitch again.

Werder Bremen has started off relativelly bad in the German league. So this game of ours, should of course be a win. Nothing else is acceptable, and if we want to go through the group stages, we need to win every home match. This being one of those if we lose points we can just pack our bags and move them to the UEFA Cup.

We will have some rested players avaliable and some not. This is a season where we HAVE to use rotation system, because we have about three games per week. We can´t play the same lineup over and over again (wouldn´t Zac dislike that if he still coached us, since he said we can only be judged with our best players on the field?), we need to rotate.

Players who should be rested are at least Adriano. He shouldn´t even be called up for this game. We have four other strikers that should be able to do the job. We can´t rely on Adriano the entire season.

I would go with this lineup right now:

Toldo

Zanetti - Cordoba - Materazzi - Favalli

Van der Meyde - Veron - Davids - Emre

Vieri - Recoba

Stankovic and Ze Maria can get a day off as well. My biggest doubts is to have Van der Meyde or Karagounis and having Vieri or Cruz. Vieri´s fitness is in doubt for this game, so.

But this is a very good lineup and we are resting some key players.

I agree with u Jimmy, and hopefully a fresh Cordoba will regenrate some stability and leadership in the back and VDM and Emre some energy in midfield with the Ze Maria at least on the bench( i am really impressed by his showing)...
One thing I DONT agree on is to leave Adriano out of it for Vieri..I agree Adriao should be rested,even if it means from now till the game starts and even if it means mising the next SerieA game but not for this game,especially Vieri lacking his scoring touch upfront.

Maybe having Kily and Emre in the middle is good too but i would also fear too many changes to affect our overall game...

Can Davids be tired? Play him. More we play him, better he plays. In the end of the season he will be great. Drop Veron.

A rotation system is certainly needed this season.And that is something that I am ot too unhappy about because we can easily play a rotating system without having to suffer,whereas the likes of Milan and Juventus would suffer.Ok then here is what I would like -

I still think that even if they are rested,the likes of Davids,Stankovic and Adriano should still go on the trip in case of any problems during the game.

We have 2 players that can play in CD if needed while Della Fiore can also play on the right aswell.Favalli is Pasquale's insurance just in case.

In midfield Van Der Meyde is Ze Maria's cover and Davids,Stankovic or Zanetti can cover the other midfield spots.

And finally up front Recoba and Adriano is more than Adequate and Adriano could be bought on for the last 20 minutes if needed!

Of course if Martins is till injured then I would play Recoba and bring in Cruz,and if Burdisso is injured I would play Materazzi and bring in Gamarra.

I don't agree at all with what you are saying guys !! I mean Vieri played such a good game yesterday and he was just unlucky with the last touch . But he managed to work hard with adriano , created lots of chances and Guys he was the one who dummied Cesar (chievo's defender) to let Deki pounce and he was also the one who set adriano for his missile in the 2nd goal !! He played a very good game apart from scoring easy chances . I expect him to shine if he started in our Werder Bremen match . i'd go with

C.zanetti as well instead of Veron if we are winning by a large margin so as to cover up the defense ...Let Adriano out of the whole game , afterall he is not machine to play 4 matches a week .

Burdisso shall make his debut also in place of Matrix at the last 10 minutes if we are winning and definitely got the 3 points .
