Stramaccioni: "Don't change, Indonesia"
Thursday, 24 May 2012 18:55

JAKARTA - Inter won their first friendly of the tour but before the match even kicked off they had been won over by Indonesia's enthusiasm for the Nerazzurri colours. Sincere, spontaneous enthusiasm that Andrea Stramaccioni wished to emphasise after the game: "This tour is proving to be a marvellous, exciting experience. It's wonderful to see all these people so passionate about sport in general and football in particular - and especially passionate about Inter. It's a joy to see and this is what football should always be like. We're proud to be here and we've already taken to these people within hours of arriving here."

The Nerazzurri coach reserved praise for tonight's opposition, "because they played well, especially in the first half, with pace and quality. I was particularly impressed by their number 10, Andik Vermansyah, but I saw lots of promising players out there. We want to thank Indonesia for all the passion they've shown. They must keep doing football the same way."

Stramaccioni then turned his attention to his own team, which he described as "Motivated and alive, even if we are at the end of the season after a none-too-easy year. And what I already knew has been confirmed: we have some very interesting youngsters. Now we have to try and understand which of them are ready for the first team and which of them could benefit from gaining more experience elsewhere. We'll work on it with the aim of freshening Inter up and finding the right balance so that we can build for a great present and future. The club is working 24 hours a day behind the scenes to do the right deals in the transfer market. Coutinho and Jonathan? I haven't just pulled them out of the bag; the club was well aware of their ability. I must say that the directors did a great job of choosing which players to send out on loan once they realised there might have been less space for them here."

Cordoba: "Milano siamo noi, spine-tingling"
Thursday, 24 May 2012 19:19

JAKARTA - Ivan Cordoba was surprised to see just how much passion Indonesia has for Inter and he wanted to thank all the fans for making him and his team-mates feel at home: "I never thought you could experience something like that abroad: hearing them sing Milano siamo noi was spine-tingling. I can't thank them enough. All this is a huge honour for us, and my team-mates feel the same way."

Just like in Italy, the same subjects keep coming up, such as Ivan's future: "I'm proud of all the years I've spent at Inter. This is a family for me and I'll always feel a part of it. I have no regrets about the choice I've made: it's time for me to focus more on my family and play football a bit less - with my friends and my children. Work as a club official in the future? I enjoy being at this team and this club, but I don't know. We'll see. If the opportunity arises for me to keep making a contribution here, I'll do that, but nothing has been decided yet. Regardless of what happens I'll always be close to Inter."

after match cordie walk to curvanord

INDONESIA-SHOW: 90 THOUSAND FANS FOR THE NERAZZURRI

Jakarta – With the return of the last few people of the entire delegation, yesterday morning included the tour in Indonesia for Inter. A true success not just in sporting sense. There were in fact 90 thousand tickets sold in the two friendlies played by Stramaccioni’s team in Jakarta.

50 thousand at the village store Over 50 thousand fans were queued up to visit the village built outside the stadium. Enthusiasm for the stars also was seen in the museum enriched with 10 historic call shirts worn by Armando Picchi in ’64 playoff game in Madird against Independiente in the Intercontinental cup, the number 6 of Facchetti in the ’73-74 season, the 10 of Matthaeus ’89-90, the 11 of Ruben Sosa in ’94-95, the 19 of Cambiasso in the Champions League final, the 8 of Prohaska ’80-81, the 10 of Sneijder in ’09-10, the 11 of Rummenigge in ’85-86, those in the fifties of Lorenzi and the one in 2008, 100 years celebration. Endless flashes from the cameras as the fans took pictures with the trophies brought from Milan: the Champions League and the Club World Cup.

Commercial aspect A more important aspect of this trip is linked to marketing. While Europe is on its knees, Indonesia has a GDP growth of 15% with advertising expenditure in excess of +20% and we (Italy) are down 15%. Inter commercial director Mario De Vivo explains the mission in Jakarta: “For the first time, Inter moved like a system by arriving here with three commercial men and two for marketing. Not so much for the 2.5 million euros but this was a program based on the commercial basis. We have not signed anything yet but we are close to close 3 out of 4 licensing contracts related to clothing, credit card and various gadgets. We are talking with several local companies for sponsorship. We have initiated contacts with several alimentary companies for some Inter-brand products including water.” Not to mention the opening for the next Inter Academy and the consolidation of the relationship with Inter Club Indonesia which has 15 thousand members. “Next year we want to bring here the youth team who just won the NextGen Series, the baby Champions League. It will be important to do a recall within 12 months of this tour. All this was possible and successful because the first to believe it was president Massimo Moratti.”

Just wanna correct that our GDP growth has actually been 6-8% annually the past couple of years, not 15%. :| I wish...

Will someone explain why Inter is so popular in Indonesia? Inter's twitter page is full of comments from people in Indonesia.

Is it a sudden rise or what?

I would say it is because of Ronaldo.

Ronaldo? Okay. Yeah, he was a great piece of business for Inter, brought so many new fans from all over the globe, myself included.

I guess I'm seeing more and more Indonesian fans because the economy is improving and internet is more accessible.
