Inter, Telecom, Scandals-what’s all the fuss about?

…No, it’s not a Calciopoli-like scandal

The latest discovery in Italian football regarding Inter has brought about numerous of senseless conclusions. Apart from the case not being over, people are already linking the situation which Milan and Juve were a couple of months ago, to that of the Nerazzurri right now. Upon hearing the word “interceptions”, brainwashed rivals are trying to involve Inter in probably, the biggest scandal of Italian football.
Many are failing to understand what looks to be, the actual scenario; back in 2002 Danilo Nucini (referee) informed Moratti that Massimo De Santis was involved in match fixing. Nucini refused to act as a witness at court and so Dr Moratti opted to use a private investigator to find evidence of the corruption, which was going on.

A few months since the Calciopoli verdicts were given out, penalised De Santis lashed out at Moratti stating that he was “spied upon”. De Santis accused that Telecom Italia, which was owned by Inter shareholder Tronchetti Provera, intercepted his phone calls. Moratti denied these claims stating that if this actually had happened, the scandal would have been uncovered four years ago.

As usual, the Italian media is making this suing case look like another Calciopoli saga, speculating that the Scudetto that has just been awarded to Inter could be taken away or deduct points from the current league which has just kicked-off. Newspapers like Tuttosport and Corriere Dello Sport have created an anti-Inter campaign with front-page titles such as ‘Inter, say sorry’, ‘Inter embarrass us’ and ‘Attack on Inter’.
Many journalists, seeing that Tronchetti Provera was Telecom Italia president, brought up the conflict of interest aspect. They seem to have forgot that the Calciopoli scandal erupted just after Milan’s Silvio Berlusconi lost the election just as Galliani resigned from “Lega Calcio” President this summer.

Dr Moratti calmly accepted to be investigated by re-appointed Borelli who was back at the FIGC. The reason on which Moratti is being investigated is privacy violation. The most logic disciplinary action to be taken is a fine for the club and Moratti, as there is no sport fraud whatsoever in this cause. Points or honours are not to be deducted or taken away respectively since it is individuals who are involved in this case and not football clubs or specific football matches. Moratti is being investigated and sued for trying to monitor corruption, which was affecting Inter, and not for being involved in corruption, like some are saying.

The same thing is going on with the Vieri case. Lately, the former Inter striker was informed that he was also being intercepted by Inter for disciplinary reasons. Known for his late night parties in the city of Milan, Moratti decided to keep track of Bobo. These allegations still are to be confirmed, but if it is to be true expect Vieri to sue Moratti for privacy violation reasons. On hearing the news, the Atalanta striker stated that it seemed that his goals and years he spent at Inter were not enough to gain Moratti’s faith, but no number of goals and presences justify the late night partying.

With the Inter-Interceptions case still going on we all have to wait and see but it is important not to make any prejudices and fully understand what is going on, for as Inter has and will never be involved in such scandals.

Thank you, writing as such will certainly brighten up a few details for some who compare this to the calciopoli.
