I gave Vieri a 4,5 rating which is fair IMO because he didn´t score nor create any chances for the team. ;)

I didn´t say Adriano was less good purely because of Vieri! But since they don´t gel yet naturally it´s not good for both of them.

I did see Inter two times last week (vs. Palermo and Parma) and the duo of VierAno is just NOT working. Mancini has to realise this and take the appropriate consequences - make it work now or do not play Vieri alongside Adriano anymore. A goal would be just what Vieri needs but we can´t wait forever if we wanna win something this season.

We conceded 7 goals so far. And yes it´s positive that we haven´t lost yet. :)

But I would rather win 2 matches, draw 1 and lose one = 7 points than win 1, draw 3 and lose 0 = 6. Every single point is important.

Only way I think VierAno could work is with two strong crossers such as Kily and Ze Maria as wingers or Recoba behind them as a fantasista feeding them with chances. So as I see it is is tactical suicide by Mancini to play this duo with a bad crosser like Super Andy and an average/OK crosser like Deki as our wingers. When this duo is used it´s a must that everybody creates chances for them. Only Adriano makes chances for himself, Vieri rarely does that. He is at his best the lethal bomber converting chances.

And of course he is not gonna score when VDM can´t cross that well and we don´t field an offensive playmaker behind him and Adriano... This has resulted in only few chances for Vieri thus far. So we cannot continue to make this mistake over and over again... Especially not when Vieri desperately needs a goal to boost his confidence and Martins and Recoba are both on fire!!

So which one do you choose: Vieri or Inter?

Gismo,

Thanks for the notes and everything, I disagree on couple of cases with you guys:
No problem. To me it´s actually fun to take notes while watching delayed matches. :D

1- Inter is providing the most entertaining football in Serie A this season, our only problem that we are letting in goals more than we should.
Personally I rarely care about entertainment value when I watch Inter. I want the result first and foremost. ;) Sure we are more entertaining but to be honest I don´t really care...

We don´t just have one problem. We have two problems: The defence, which has been below average thus far. It is too passive and have marking problems. Also the the wings (ADVM and Deki yesterday) don´t help out enough which leaves the backline exposed. Second problem is that we waste FAR too many chances. This is also something we can´t afford and we have to fix that as well.

2- I dont know where u brought this defensive positioning theory, the defender always while marking should be between the forward and his goal and not in front of him, that is the basic rule and that Cordoba was marking Gilardino well, but he should have went to the right as soon as he felt Gilardino may shoot so he blocks it by his body, but guys we are not defenders and its easy to preach on any forum than to act on the pitch under all that pressure. I still believe the first goal credit goes to Gilardino as he did a fantastic shot.
I´ve played football myself for 7 years. Some of those years as a left back so I didn´t just pull that theory out of my ass! :p The reason why Cordoba has problems marking players is as I said because he sometimes tends to stand behind the player he is marking. This is not good enough from a world class defender like Café!

What he has to do instead is stand sorta next to or in between the opponent and the direction the ball is coming from. If you do this you have a much better chance of either getting the ball or preventing your opponent from getting the ball.

This is the best way to mark a player. Of course you cannot stand correctly all the time but it´s crucial to be positioned well in the moment an opponent passes/crosses the ball towards you and the player you are marking.

I´ve notice that Cordoba has problems with this. Toni´s goal for Palermo was partially because Cordoba let him stand closest to the approaching player who was ready to pass the ball. If he had been standing either next to him or in front of him he most likely would have saved the situation and Palermo would not have scored.

3- I think u all are so enthusiastic about seeing Carini in action but Toldo is not doing bad and I agree he is not to blame and in football there is no benefit of using what if logic.
I´m enthusiastic to see Carini in action because I´ve seen his talent and I rate him as a good and stable goalkeeper. He should IMO be given the chance because Toldo is making too many mistakes like he did last season too.

It would be so irritating if Carini could actually do a better job than Toldone already and we still played the latter, don´t you think? :)

4- Veron was great and I still believe this guy is becoming the heart of the team.
He has played very well so far. With one of the very best ballwinners (if not the best) next to him in Davids he is allowed to shine. I would say that at the moment he is 80-85% of his best level, and I predict he will get even better as the season progresses.

5-You all assume that Mancini keeps Vieri cause he is a friend of his, but com’on its not a school team,
Bobo scored 0 goals in 7 matches. So how do you explain that Recoba or Martins are not playing from minute 1 instead of Vieri?? After reading this interview with Roberto Mancini I somehow can´t think otherwise...

Are you trying to give all your support to Vieri?
"I'm trying to help him because he deserves it and because he has done a lot for Inter, with over a hundred goals. He just needs time then he'll return to being the important player he was up to a few months ago. He's a good person and he trains with great seriousness and effort."

Do Martins' two goals against Parma take time away from Vieri?
"No. The season is long, we have a lot of championship and cup matches ahead of us. There will be room for everyone. We're lucky to have Adriano, Cruz, Martins, Recoba and Vieri in the squad. They are five very strong strikers and it's up to me to bring the best out of each of them."

Still not convinced? ;) He´s basically saying that he is almost certain that Vieri will find his form and that Vieri is above Martins in the pecking order. I was not happy to read this because I think Martins can do better for us...

My theory is that this is just a cover explanation for playing Vieri because he likes him in privat. IMO Vieri is the new Helveg so far... :cry2:

My hope is that he doesn´t play Vieri more because it is his friend but because he considers him to be the best partner for Adriano. Also I hope that he will play Martins or Recoba more from minute one instead.

8- INTER fans are impatient this season, we are expecting a lot from a team which is still not totally in harmony yet, but showing great signs still.
I agree. But we´re also showing bad signs too. And I´m not expecting lo Scudetto nor CL trophy this season. It takes time to create winning side. Rome wasn´t built in a day... :hopefull: Mancini has things to improve! And things to improve even more. Let´s hope he will do both.

I totally forgot about that! The guy seemed solid and he was stopping VDM in many occassions. I always thought of him as a CD, but i guess he is capable of playing LB. Nonetheless, we shouldn't bring him back for at least a year. Let him play more and mature better, then we shall see. Also, Pandev is having a solid campaign with Lazio. Do we still own him?

Glad we share the same enthusiasm and idea  even though Gazzetta dello Sport might think differently...

77 Potenza A. 5.5  He was no star performer, but just like Hamed said he was solid!

As for Pandev, I think it's a loan deal...Might want to check Jimmy's website... Opps, looks like we Co-own him?

I wasn´t really a big fan of him because of these factors:

1) He didn´t win a title for us.
2) He used two ballwinners too often for my liking.
3) The only match I remember he used a different system than usual was CL 2003/2004 in one of the semifinals vs. Milan.
4) Because of his stubborness to always play one strict system (read point three) I thought he sometimes was really not being sensable. Against the smaller teams at home he didn´t have the courage to insert and extra offensive midfielder. So tactically I felt he lacked this aspect of the game.

Reading those 4 points you might think I would´ve lauched scathing attacks against Hector Cuper. :D But I held back because I apreciated the fact that he turned us into a title contender again. ;) So for me personally he was a man I didn´t really like nor dislike much.

The difference between Zaccheroni and Cuper is that the latter plays 4-4-2 more or less always failing to adapt his strategy to certain teams. The former´s philosophy is 3 defenders, 4 midfielders, 2 strikers and 1 player to insert when needed. So I do think people misunderstood his flexibility. He certainly changed tactics more than Cuper did. His achilles´ heel was to play his pet aka the bad performing Helveg.

I think every coach has at least one thing that he becomes obssessed about and stubborn whether it was Cuper or Zac or even Mancini, there will always be moments where we see their stubborness. The success of the coach depends if the stubborness works

Hmmm.. what an average performance. If we should blame someone for this match then it will be Mancio who tried to correct his mistakes by Martins and Recoba and he should thank God that we scored 2.

And where are the Toldo lovers, what are they saying now?

This will be controversial but playing Vieri now is even more hazardous that playing Helveg. It is because of the position that the 2 operates on. Vieri's position, as a striker, is one of the most crucial in the team and when he performed badly, it will cause a great effect, a bad one of course, to the whole team. Helveg was a wing-back and thus even though he performed badly, the effect wasn't too big to the team.
