Why is Inter called La Beneamata?

In the aftermath of Inter's first European Cup victory (1964), the well-known sport journalist Gianni Brera wrote an article in which he praised Inter for defeating Real Madrid and avenging the honour of Italian football (the Spaniards had knocked Milan out in a previous round of the competition). Brera used to give nicknames to players, coaches, etc... and on that occasion he dubbed Inter as "la Beneamata dai milanesi" (cherished by the Milanese people). It's worth mentioning that, back then, Inter was considered the club of the Milanese bourgeoisie (hence the nickname "Bauscia" - braggart in the local dialect), whereas Milan was supported mainly by working class immigrants coming from the South and the North-East of Italy (nicknamed "casciavit" - screwdriver in Milanese). Maybe Brera wanted to emphasise the true Milanese spirit of the club, but I can't swear to it. Anyway, now things have changed and there's no such class division any more. It's just good banter between us and them.
