Mancini may consider continuing with a 4 man midfield, and the perhaps introducing Perisic/Ljajic in the 2nd half if need be. That might be the more sensible approach.

I agree. Considering Mancini's preferences, I think this is the likely approach. Don't see him starting with a very attacking formation in such an important game, so early in the season when (let's be honest, points aside) we haven't looked so great thus far.

Play it safe by stuffing the MF to start, then pull off the worst performing MF in favor of Perisic when we want to kick it up a notch. That's how I see it going down.

One question - if this is the preferred approach and Icardi isn't fit, can Mancini go with a front 2 of Perisic - Jovetic? Or does that approach lack a true #9 forward, forcing Ol' Man Palacio into the starting XI?

Either that or Perisic - Jovetic - Ljajic. I really hope we don't see Palacio, he's been dreadful.

Perisic can probably play as a striker too if needed but his skills would be utilized better elsewhere.

I found a post on Milan's forum which kind of gave me confidence.

People should know that with Kondogbia and Medel in the midfield, Inter had the most possesion out of any team in serie A, around 70% every match.

We probably wont be able to bring the ball past halfway line. Bacca and Adriano will face Miranda and Murillo, not some fodders from Empoli. And despite their attacking movement was non existent, they now have individuals like Perisic, Jovetic and Ljajic who can make difference on their own. Icardi will be back too. Hope Ely wont play this game, he's not ready for this.

But what he failed to mention is Kondogbia's been probably our worst player in the past two games and can't really hold possession. We managed to have high possession in the last two games because Atalanta were playing with 10 men for about a half hour and Carpi are shit.

I'm really excited about this match. I hate the international break but hopefully this works in our advantage and our newcomers get a chance to gell in.

I remember Ljajic has played as a false 9 before alongside Jovetic at Fiorentina, and he did it quite well. That probably will be a better solution.

But since they have all just arrived, next week if Icardi is injured we may end up with Palacio-Jovetic.

im not sure - despite everyone's excitement, i don't think we will see a 4-2-3-1 with jovetic, icardi, ljajic and perisic all playing. I suspect we will see a 4-3-3 with medel, melo and kondogbia in the midfield and if icardi is healthy, icardi as striker flanked by perisic and jovetic. if icardi is not ready, we may see jovetic as striker with ljajic and perisic on the wings. Just no palacio to start please

Mancini will definitely turn to his beloved 4-2-3-1, he got the players he wanted so he can play the formation he wants, (his favourite formation) thats a no brainer. I guess it will be intoduced pretty fast maby even in the first game vs Milan but I kinda doubt that aswell but eventually and pretty fast I reckon we will definitely play it.

I personally like 4-2-3-1, think 4-3-1-2 is outdated a long time ago and simply outshined by both 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1. Now that we got the players to pretty much play both 4-3-3 and
4-2-3-1 I think we will so a better K-dog too as he will have a lot more option than in a static 4-3-1-2. Thrilled for this season and nothing besides top 3 is good enough with this team/Squad. #Noexcuses #RAPEMILAN
