No one's really proud of anything.
But the way we presented ourselves shows that there's something there that people have ignored.
This shot on target nonsense... Hitting the cross bar which meant having the biggest non-goal chance of the game is "off" target only on technicalities.
Bar & in, on target.
Bar & out, off target.
That's nonsense and I don't like seeing this repeated over and over again.
What shots on target did Liverpool have exactly? A neck header by Firmino and a deflected shot? They're far more worried by their performance than we are of ours, that's the difference. And it's also the difference in where the teams are. Liverpool are a team that consistently goes far in this competition and rarely faces this kind of pressure in knockout games. We barely expected to be here because we downgraded a team and handed it to a coach that no one really expected to pull it off.
Liverpool played with their very best. We did not.
We can only do better, they can only do worse.
It's not about pride, it's about reviewing the entire situation. And that is that the score doesn't do us justice, that the game could have gone either way and that we can compete at the highest level even when we're mentally broken (no wins vs Atalanta, Milan and Napoli within a month). Play this game 2-3 months ago with full strength and we win 7 times out of 10.
Bayern is a completely different situation. New coach, shaky results, no Neuer and not really in their best form. Salzburg is on Sporting's level for example. One managed to get a draw, the other lost 5-0 at home.
