Well it's not like we bought Lazaro as a backup. I'd never even heard of the dude until we signed him and he barely featured in preseason due to muscle injury so I can't judge. Either way I expect that the plan is for him to be the starter when he's fit and god forbid, not worse than Candreva.

Don't want to come across as a Barella hater, because I'm not. But I've never thought much of the idea of a Sensi / Brozovic / Barella midfield. All 3 of them are too similar and unless Conte proves me wrong and I see them playing well together, I just have trouble envisioning much from that trio.

Therefore, I reckon the midfield trio has to be 2 of those 3 and 1 of Vecino/Gagliardini. Brozovic is the obvious choice for DLP/regista and Sensi has played very well in preseason. Having Vecino or Gagliardini offers some degree of dynamism and I agree that Conte will use those two regularly to 'balance' out the midfield. Overall, as I've mentioned before, I'm not a great fan of the midfield because there's not enough attacking quality IMO.
