Listening to that Icardi discussion wishing I was on as a guest again. I couldn’t disagree more with some of the thoughts about his ability as a player. Lukaku is a superior player at almost everything besides pure finishing.
Haha, I had similar feelings while listening, sitting there wishing I could be a part of the conversation. Although, given the standard of the league I do think Icardi would do well here. He would by a liability in Europe in my opinion as he simply isn't a good outlet for a team struggling to get retain possession, and lacks any physical characteristics that allow him to win games through flashes of brilliance, but in serie a we could easily accommodate his lack of involvement in buiild up play etc.

Agreed totally. Icardi was amazing at his best. He only needed 2-3 shots for every goal and was extremely clinical. But that was then and Lukaku has been quite prolific this season. 11 goals in 13 fixtures total.

Anyway, enjoying the podcast a lot. And, even though we listeners might not agree on every point, it's definitely a positive thing when the conversation continues outside the episode. Thanks for great content guys!

Another good episode, I fear the Salzburg match is going to be tougher than expected. Roma will play deep and kick bombs towards Lukaku routinely. The Finnish Flim Flam Man will be back again around the November break

Aussie spin off episode would be fun.

But Uni is no Kramer. He's not Penske material.

If we would only do low crosses all the time, teams would prepare for that. Usually our high crosses are meant for the far post lurkers, like Dumfries and Lautaro.

Yeah it wasn’t so much that I felt we should only do low crosses. However if you think about where our goals have come from recently the low crosses have been more high percentage. Thuram’s goals against Torino and Roma being a perfect example.

Dumfries did have a good high cross that almost resulted in a goal for Thuram yesterday.

It was Nico that started that point. Obviously if there are 3 chances to make a low cross to score 3, we will do that, but you can't force the man on the wing to focus more on low crosses. You will do what the opposition allows.

The best thing are cutbacks, because those bring goals more regularly than any cross, just ask Pep's Barcelona. They perfected the cutback. But those are also rarer than any cross, because the opposition will always try to have a man lurking in front of defence so that doesn't happen.

I understand the point of Thuram not really being the best at headers and also Roma's defence being quite tall, but like I said, Inzaghi mostly instructs the ball to go for the far post when we cross high. I think we are rather good at that, it creates chaos and Lautaro is quite good at first time shots. It's mostly for that or for Dumfries/Darmian to score straight from the cross.

So the biggest problem in attack right now is the low quality of crosses from the left, but as you guys said, luckily when Dimarco isn't up to par, he still has quality, while Carlos Augusto is getting better game after game. As long no big injuries happen, we have sweet problems with this squad (except that a fall of focus happens too often, but maybe a better squad will help circumvent that this season)

Yeah I would also consider cut backs another type of low crossing.
