PS - Am I the only one who had stomach aches from being nervous during the PKs?? Like it was a damn CL final! God damn this team controls my emotions and my physical well being! Lol I was having withdrawals after the game so I watched it again once it was over!

After having a night to digest my impressions I have reached some conclusions.

First of all, I loved the way we passed the ball in the first 25-30 minutes. After that the heat kind of took it's toll on us and we slowed down the tempo. Which is understandable because our current squad will never be able to play like that for a full 90 minutes regardless of the weather anyway.

What I didn't like is that we were very inneffective at creating chances, this is in my opinion due to not having enough players that are confident and skilled enough to deliver that final killer pass or cross consistently. It's not a coincidence we created twice as much when Ibra was on the pitch. Also, when we played like that our defence was really exposed. Club America is a pretty weak team and they ripped us apart on a few occasions. Imagine what United or Barca will do to us if we use that many players in attack.

Also this is pre-season. Last pre season we also had some games where we were very good offensivly (Supercup, Ajax,) but Mourinho realized we gave away the ball and got exposed on the break too much, and reverted to "hoof ball". We don't have the players for it yet. Even though Motta did great and is a class above our other midfidlers, like I said when we bought him, Stankovic, Muntari and Quaresma made too many poor passes that America used to counter us with. Had they been a little more clinical this match could of been a humiliating defeat.

The real test will be against Chelsea. If we can stand up to them well without bunkering down in our own half I'll go into next season with a positive outlook. But regardless how it goes to me it's clear we still need a creative attacking player and at least one more centre midfielder.

Ok so i was at the game yesterday afternoon and i was amazed at the atmosphere! around 30,000 fans with the club america side of the stadium immensely passionate. all that aside, this was my first inter game and i was pleasantly surprised. Though it was rather embarasssing to lose to club america ( i got so many dirty looks and mexicans laugh at me after the game) i thought we played alright. I didnt actually think Viera played all that well and i was screaming to take him off the pitch all game and when he walked to take that PK... i just knew in my heart he would miss. after he missed i overheard an italian say to his american friend "oh well, he is French haha".Viera needs to get out. Balotelli was rather brash and not very patient during the match. Santon looked impressive to me and looked as though he had more experience under his belt that balotelli. I was extremely happy with Milito's play, that being said we absolutley BLEW in finishing throughout. Quaresma seems to be trying harder and looked promising. Belec... was hard to watch, wasnt confident at all. We just looked tired out there and the effort was lacking in comparison to CA. they played like they had something to prove, we didnt. mainly because we dont have anything to prove haha. but we will need to rev up the passion on tuesday night against Chels. I was so thrilled to see ibra warmup and play, no matter what people say, he is a class act and so exciting to watch live. the applause he got when he entered the pitch was amazing. damn, i really wish i could see my team win though!

I was also at the game, and was also covering it for my media internship, but at the press conference they did say America was better physically at that point.

I wouldn't put that much stock into the game because the team certainly didn't. The players were upbeat. Zanetti strolled around the media section talking to fans and such things. Mourinho didn't want to do a press conference because he felt the match, and tournament, don't mean anything.

It actually seems like they were pretty happy with the outcome, that's what the people I talked to said anyway. This was a match to get fit for them, nothing more.

I'll agree: it is early. But after what we saw last year, I haven't been even slightly impressed with him yet. Not to mention that the image of him standing around like a spectator during CA's goal is burnt into my mind right now. I'm not throwing up the "Give up on him" flag, just waiting to see something.
