As you know there are many 2 striker formations, even though most are not popular these days. I just feel we are missing out by not trying out a Icardi-Jovetic partnership, which could improve them both. The basic logic is that Icardi is not very mobile, and everyone has realised that if they mark him out of the game Inter will struggle to score. Having someone like Jovetic playing next to him with create more space for Icardi. On the other hand, I still have faith in Jovetic's talent. FDB is discouraging him from holding on to the ball too long, and if he starts passing a bit earlier, he can be lethal in himself. Jojo has the talent to create and score goals out of nothing, but I don't think he is a lone striker anymore - he is now more of a fantasista, the creative one who plays off the centerforward.
Looking at Inter's squad, there are two formations that come to mind. Both are a bit aggressive, which can be tried against smaller teams.
1. 4-4-2/4-2-3-1
Icardi
Perisic - Jovetic - Candreva
Banega - Mario
Santon - Murillo - Miranda - Ansaldi
Handanovic
2. 3-5-2 and its variations thereof:
Icardi - Jovetic
Perisic - Mario - Banega - Brozovic - Candreva
Murillo - Medel - Miranda
Handanovic
Yes, I have deliberating made the attacking choice of players. You can always make them more defensive by changing a player or two.
