Samu again on the wing, as Eric Maxim Choupo moting plays as Central striker.

Japan just score. Honda from CSKA Moscow is the scorer.

Worst match ever. If you are going to play Eto'o on the wing, it means whoever is playing striker must be fucking good. But this doesn't appear the case with Cameroon. Why has almost every single game so far this world cup been shit?

I've watched WC since 2002 and this is definitely the worst so far.

I'd like to think it's because teams have become smarter and more evenly matched that this is happening. In 98 and 2002 you had many teams that didn't even prepare for their opponents and tried to play whatever way they're used to and it resulted in them having 4 goals in the back of their nets. I think more teams now understand how important that first match is so they're playing a more cautious way or somehow trying to conserve energy for the upcoming games. A lot of these teams have actually played much better during the friendlies than they have in their first game, but I think a lot of things contribute to the slow beginning with one reason also being the exhaustion of some players. EPL players must be exhausted by now when compared to others, as well as Inter players who played in 3 different competitions and had a stressful last 2 months. I think as the tournament progresses we'll see better matches.

Japan won. Second half was a bit more entertaining than the first but still this WC thus far has been so below par on quality. Maybe teams just take a conservative approach with their first game of the tournament.

it's boring because it is begining, teams are calculation, doesn't want to lose the first game, it is the worse they can do... It should be better from second round. :)

@bessi, slovenia - Algeria was even worse

For teams who fight to be second PLACe of the group, its very hard to play this kind of games, the margin between losing and draw is WAY longer than the margin between draw and win, so they are all happy with a 0-0 cause that means the other team which is a direct rival doesn't win.
The group with Brazil, Ivory etc.. iam sure will be amazing. We have 2 contenders there and 1 great team.

The atmosphere is not football-welcome. It's terrible to play under these conditions(vuvuzelas, "dead" fans) World Cup in Africa is good for promotional purposes, but for football it's the worst decision ever. Unless they do implement a rule for the vuvuzelas.

I didn't watch the 1994 World Cup, but were there any games that weren't sold out? Would be much better if it was Morocco or Egypt so more people from Europe would attend(hence more tickets sold, therefore better football atmosphere)

Consider that I stopped watching the World Cup games because of the vuvuzelas and I was extremely looking forward for this tournament for the last 2 years. (I had some concerns after the Confederations Cup+vuvuzelas). Also, imagine that, you are trying to play football and there's this racket. You simply can't. If I get dizzy from television, imagine how the players feel who run for 90 minutes and cannot concentrate.

I heard that they would ban them today, but they were there alright.... Only full games I've watched is Korea-Greece and Argentina-Nigeria.

1998 was the best World Cup in terms of quality I would say(in the last 16 years). Also atmosphere was great.
2002 was an amazing World Cup and the Japanese and Koreans made certain that the football world loved their tournament. I loved the Korean fans(hated the team from 2nd round and on though). It was different, but positive different.
2006 was okay. Similar to 1998 but less quality.
2010 started crap(in terms of football) and not only that, you can't even watch a damn game without getting a headache.

I pity everyone that has to wake up at 4am or 5am or has to sleep at 4am just to watch a boring lifeless game that makes you sick.

Average attendance in the 1994 World Cup was nearly 69,000, which broke records that had stood since 1950. To this day, the total attendance for the final tournament of nearly 3.6 million remains the highest in World Cup history, despite the expansion of the competition to 32 teams in 1998.

/QUOTE]

Could we please keep the vuvuzela discussion to one thread??

As far as attendances go I don't what you are on about. Most games from what I have seen has been very well attended. Of the three games I was at (SA vs mexico, ghana vs seribia and holland vs denmark) the only real empty spaces in the stadium were the corporate sky box sections which weren't for sale to the general public.

As far as Fifa projections go 97-98% of tickets are sold. So really don't see where you are coming with as far as this arguement goes.

Btw. For those interested in the football Wes got motm at today's game.

Talking about attendance Yuko is very right, when the big teams are playing in fact the match is fully attended, but when there play some crappy teams like Jap-Cam, Kor-Gre you can notice so many free spaces, what didn't really happen in WC06 at any game.

South Korea-Greece was half empty from what I've seen.

Also another game had a lot of empty seats. Maybe Algeria-Slovenia game, but I don't really remember

South korea vs Greece was played at the same time as the sa vs france rugby match, was always going to have issues. You will find the odd game at any tournament have a low crowd but overall most games are either sold out or very close.

World Cup in USA in 1994 was the best organised tournament ever.... This World Cup reminds me of ''Italia 90'' ...

holland defense is a joke, they will continue to fail in big tournaments because of this, like they did before...

Denmark are great so far, 3 great chances.. holland didn't show nothing so far.

Disagree. In the qualifications we conceeded very few goals. Van der Wiel is one of the greatest talents of Europe, Heitinga and Mathijsen play very well against European top strikers in the English and German league, and Gio van Bronckhorst is a bit over the hill, but still very experienced.

well, i was speaking about that game particular.

but i still don't think it is on fine level. I love Heitinga, but i think he is best as RB, can do some nice forward runs and is great at defending. Van der Wiel i haven't seen much, so i am not the right man to talk about oppinions. Gio is old, and Mathijsen, well i am not very impressed by him.
