Netherlands:

Doelmannen:
Jasper Cillessen (Ajax)
Tim Krul (Newcastle United)
Michel Vorm (Swansea City)

Verdedigers:
Bruno Martins Indi (Feyenoord)
Daryl Janmaat (Feyenoord)
Terence Kongolo (Feyenoord)
Stefan de Vrij (Feyenoord)
Joël Veltman (Ajax)
Ron Vlaar (Aston Villa)
Paul Verhaegh (FC Augsburg)

Middenvelders:
Wesley Sneijder (Galatasaray)
Nigel de Jong (AC Milan)
Daley Blind (Ajax)
Jordy Clasie (Feyenoord)
Leroy Fer (Norwich City)
Jonathan de Guzman (Swansea City)
Georginio Wijnaldum (PSV)

Aanvallers:
Robin van Persie (Manchester United)
Arjen Robben (Bayern München)
Jeremain Lens (Dinamo Kiev)
Dirk Kuijt (Fenerbahce)
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Schalke 04)
Memphis Depay (PSV)

In my opinion there are only two choices that Van Gaal have made that are worth to discuss: Kongolo <> Van Aanholt and Kuijt <> Promes/Boëtius.

I've only heard of three of those Dutch defenders...Also noticed that Sneijder will/could play his 100th game this summer.

Kuyt still makes the team?

Kuijt absolutely won't be a starter which i, to be quite frank, absolutely don't mind. Never been a big fan of him, but he is obviously past his prime. He could also make the 100 caps by the way, he's now played 98 times for the Dutch team.

I assume the defenders you know are Vlaar and two of Martins Indi/Janmaat/De Vrij? I am actually quite worried about our defense, as Vlaar is the most experienced defender with 22 caps. Not that i prefer Heitinga and/of Mathijsen for example, they are experienced but, like Kuijt, past their prime and quite mediocre. I would have like to see Virgil van Dijk of Celtic.

Van Gaal will most likely field a 5-3-2 formation: Cillessen; Janmaat, De Vrij, Vlaar, Martins Indi, Blind; De Jong, Sneijder, De Guzman; Van Persie, Robben.

Maybe that's not even necessary. Ofcourse, 'Oranje' has more quality players than the Australians but it's not the team it used to be.

I didn't look at the defenders but I know of Blind too, assuming he was LB. I didn't know Janmaat but you're correct with your other guesses.

How does Van Persie - Robben work that way, does Robben not just stick out wide?

I don't know, i'm really curious about it, as the 5-3-2 is just a newly introduced formation by Van Gaal. Normally the Dutch (almost) always play (a kind of) 4-3-3.

By the way, i hope Blind won't play as a LWB in the 5-3-2, he's just too slow for that. Think he could be better used as a sub for De Jong in midfield.

Not Clasie in place of De Guzman?

How come there is no Strootman? I do admit I haven't watched NL in a while, but still, thought he would be at least on the bench.

Edit: oh right, he got injured. Totally forgot about that. That's lucky for Roma, no club will try to snatch him (*cough* Manchester United *cough*)

I wouldn't be surprised if Strootman eventually (after next season, for exemple) ends up at Man Utd. He's never made it a secret that the EPL is his dream league and with Van Gaal being Man Utd's new coach next season..

Most likely not.

Josh Kennedy and Tom Rogic have been cut from the Australian squad to injury. Mark Birighitti and Luke Wilkshire have also been cut.

Australia squad:

Goalkeepers: Eugene Galekovic (Adelaide United), Mitch Langerak (Borussia Dortmund), Mat Ryan (Club Brugge)

Defenders: Jason Davidson (Heracles), Ivan Franjic (Brisbane Roar), Ryan McGowan (Shandong Luneng), Matthew Spiranovic (Western Sydney Wanderers), Alex Wilkinson (Jeonbuk Motors), Bailey Wright (Preston North End).

Midfielders: Oliver Bozanic (Luzern), Mark Bresciano (Al Gharafa), James Holland (Austria Vienna), Mile Jedinak (Crystal Palace), Massimo Luongo (Swindon Town), Matt McKay (Brisbane Roar), Mark Milligan (Melbourne Victory), Dario Vidosic (Sion)

Forwards: Tim Cahill (New York Red Bulls), Ben Halloran (Fortuna Dusseldorf), Mathew Leckie (FSV Frankfurt), Tommy Oar (Utrecht), Adam Taggart (Newcastle Jets), James Troisi (Atalanta)

I'm disappointed that Rogic hasn't made it. One of the few half-decent creative players we have.

Any Netherlands/Eredivisie fans think Wijnaldum is likely to start any big games or nah?

Every time I used to watch highlight shows and weekly European football shows he looked pretty promising.. Haven't followed him at all this season though
