Good half in this first game...Germany look OK but if they want to get far they shouldnt let goals like the one today,they almost got another one on Germany using the same play.

They have to fix the back four,with more attitude and less ball watching or they will be burned by bigger teams and faster attacks..

I cant help but root for them though..

The good thing is that Huth is not on!!! Mertesacker and Metzelder is simply great! Huth is too slubby to play as a starter!

Great goal by Lahm, refs are having some difficulties with handballs and offside calls, but overall the game was good so far. Germany is playing very well, but Costa Rica is simply inviting them onto their half. Unfortunately for Germany, they would not deserve much credit even if they win all three group games

I never support National Teams in tournaments, but Germany and Holland deserve my praise! They deserve to move on, perhaps until the semis at maximum

I don't see Poland or Ecuador doing much damage to this Germany, but I'll wait to see them first later tonight. Costa Rica has chances to qualify I think, if there's a draw in the other group game

The funny thing is that they ruined a perfect ball and called it offside.Still there has to be better work by their midfielders defesively as the back 4 look like a deer caught in the headlights.

Great opener with 6 goals..Good game and i know Germany will do better defensively..Lahm and Fring's goals were fantastic

It was an entertaining match but that's it for Germany.

Ziyad, I can't really see them improving. Klinsmann was getting most of the criticism for the defense and today it showed why. Costa Rica have a mediocre attack in this WC and even they ripped the back 4 apart almost every time when they got there (which wasn't too often )...

Imagine what a better offense could do to this German defense.. Apart from this you have to admit that they played a good game but I can't see them going anywhere. 4 years ago they weren't favorites either, but had a solid team that the likes of Kahn, Ballack and Klose could take forward, but this time I feel no matter the effort of some individuals, they'll crash out dur to the weak defense. I hope I'm not right, but this is what I think.

Kahn should play, and with BALLACK in the team, Germany will probably be even better...

Zamat over the years i learned not to ever underestimate the Germans in big competitions..Somehow they just do it.I am not saying they will be in the final but their group is easier than alot and with the group stages they can get more confidence and momentum going on.

This is the first game however lets not get carried away,they need a hell of alot in the back and i commented on that since the start of the game as you can see.

I learned that too and I support them to some extent, but a miracle is needed in their defense.
They should get past the group stage no problem, but I don't think they can get into the final.
Of course, you can never know with Germans, but that's my prediction.

I know mine too but i can never not get overexcited with them...despite the odds.

Anyways Lahm and Schneider were great,hope to see Ballak and Kahn in their next game.
