haha I dont doubt you at all I just find it funny that they are so desperate that the president is calling him to play for his team...
Like, I cant imagine Tony Blair calling someone and begging him to play football... Or Vladamir Putin... or George W Bush hahaha how funny would that be...
'Please Freddy Oddu (sic because he's a moron) please play for the Uhn-iteeeed Staaaates of Ameeeeerika we rreeallly need you here to be a WORLD POWER. Lets go kick some butt! YAAH!'

How you can compare USA, UK. These are countries with strong footballers and people love their country a lot. Personally I don't know any British or American player who plays for other national team

I don't want talk a lot about this. But they are people from Macedonia on this forum who will tell you more than me ;)

Owen Hargreaves is Canadian.... Michael Owen is Welsh....
um lets see
Ryan Giggs is technically english...
A few english players have played for Jamacia I think... or was it Trinidiad? In the world cup... Two (Younghusband I think the surname is) brothers play for the Phillipenes (Chelsea reserves)
I was just making a point that it was like... extreme, to get the president to call a footballer just to play for the country... I find it funny, not bad.
Calm down ;) I think you're reading into my post a bit too much

Th epoint here is that if President is speaking personally with the player it means that player is good. And President wants him to be part of thsi nation, and that's it :)

I agree with Pajo and Inter101. It's really doesn't look good when footballer plays for country rather than his home one. There lots of players like this: Camoranesi, Ibrahimovic, Deco.

Also in my country we had one talanted player Alexander Samedov, who played in Spartak Moscow. Once there was training camp and coach called him up. He was treated very well, but when the time came to chose between Russia and Azerbaijan he chosed Russia :frustrat:

I support foreigners in clubs, but in national team not. To play for the national team there have to be something more than just playing in big team and win. It have to be love for your country etc.

Ibrahimovic was bron and raised in Sweden. His parents don't from there so what?? He is a swede. And your a foreigner just cause you weren't born in that country?? If you naturalize you aren't a foreigner anymore. Than you are just as much a national as anybody who was born there. It ain't your fault that your luck was bad and you got born were you don't wanna be.

But who am I kidding. Debatting with nationalist is pointless. They have their view on this and me ( and the non nationalists) have ours.

I don't know where he will play, but coz I am Macedonian, I hope for Macedonia... It's his choise thiough... Sweden has much better football than Macedonia, that's the fact, but there are rearly born tallented players in Macedonia, so when one is great, why don't choose Macedonia... If he is good like they say he is, than he will be treated like god here... Espetially coz he is an Inter player, here are lots of supporters of Inter...

Pajo, you are right. Even Macedonian football is good and there are some good players. But there are no so great talents like Ibrahimovic.

Hope he will play for Macedonia and brings success to your country.

Inter Primavera beat Arezzo 3-1 in their opening match of the pre-season De Cecco tournament in Pescara. Sebastian Ribas (10'), Gabriele Puccio (18') and Goran Slavkovski (65') scored for Vincenzo Esposito's team. The Nerazzuri face Fiorentina this evening and Angolana tomorrow, with the semi-finals and finals to take place at the weekend.

Slavkovski scored again. I think if he keeps this form with primavera team, he can probably be with First Team next season :yeay:

I believe there is a confusion between the issue of ethnicity and nationality in Slavkovski's case. Being one in such a dilemma myself, I can fully understand your issue.

My grandparents came from China but they moved to Indonesia early in their life and our family has since settled down in Indonesia. Me and my parents were born in Indonesia.

I have always considered myself to be a Chinese, of ethnicity, but an Indonesian, of nationality.

And as for the issue on which country should a footballer play, I believe that one should play for his national team and not his ethnic team. :)

Well Han, everybody has his own thoughts, but we will see. As I said, it's his to choose where to play, and for that, only the time will show...

If I'd be borned in Sweden, lived whole life in Sweden, have been growned up by Swedish football officals - I'd have no doubt. Also considering that they are one of the best NT's around.

I think for Slavkovski everything depends on his parents. If they told him a lot a bot macedonia and it's his home country, if he visited Macedonia a lot and have some relatives there, then it's possible that he will chose Macedonia ;)

It's not right to say that someone should play for their birth country's national team. For all we know, a Spanish player could've been born in Colombia while the family spent a vacation in the latter country etc. He's still Spanish.

Your country is an accident of birth... Just like whether you are born into money, whether you are a good footballer.... All of this is accident of birth.
In my opinion? Yes, play for your birth country. But it is more important to play for the country you love and feel naturalized in.
I was born in Scotland, and I spent a year there. I have no scottish blood in me and I have been back once since I was born. It does not mean I would play for them.... Unless I failed to get into the English team and Scotland was my chance to play International football.
I have no qualms with Deco for not playing for Brazil, he plays for Portgual because he wants to play International football, and he plays international football because he wants to play, not win stuff.
Ibrahimovic loves Sweden more, for whatever reason, so he's fully entitled to play for them if they want him to.
From what my swedish friends have told me in their country they just call him 'Zlatan', in all households, and he's as swedish as anyone else, basically....

I agree with everything except the part about football skills being an accident of birth. I think it has more to do with hard work and ambition, and of course a little bit of luck with injuries and stuff.

true, hard work and ambition is a huge part of it, but at the same time i'm glad thats the only bit of my post you picked on =p
apparently month of birth also affects it
the example given in the research is that if you are born early in the academic year, you are more 'developed' and are more likely to get picked for your school team, thus, you play more... whereas if you are born later on in the year you are less developed (on average) compared to the 'older' kids so you are less likely to get picked
its quite an interesting way of lookign at it really

He might be off in January (to ManUtd)

http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/sport/story/0,2789,940759,00.html

It says that he has had problems getting some playing time in Primavera and might go to ManUtd.

At the same time another swedish paper says that Inter want to keep him and have offered a new deal untill 2011.

I read this on eurosport too. He thinks he will get playing time at Man Utd? I hope he will play in our Coppa Italia match this week and that he will stay with us.
