I didn't find any such thread so i decided to open one now, being geography and history two big passions of mine.

a change in the official name of the state macedonia is very likely to take place in the next few days.

the parliament of the state of Macedonia, officially Πоранешна Југословенска Република Македонија, Poranešna Jugoslovenska Republika Makedonija (credits to wikipedia), in english former yugoslav republic of macedonia (fyrom or fyr macedonia), has voted to change their name to Република Северна Македонија, Republika Severna Makedonija, in english Republic of North Macedonia.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-46846231

for it to become the official new name now it is necessary the vote of the greek parliament, which in the past years had opposed to the right of use of the name "macedonia", because it is also a region of greece, as we all know. it is historically a wider region, and today it is a transnational area from the geographical point of view.

because the new name is the result of a deal between the two governments, the approval of the parliament in Athens can be taken for granted.

i think i have described it accurately but in case there are any inaccuracies or anything to add corrections are welcomed.

History is written by those who have hanged heroes... I love history but most of them are deceptions..

If we can discuss geography and history without being hot headed and avoid any kind of xenophobia, I'm all for it.

Reading Plutarch right now, the Lives of Noble Grecians and Romans. So far read about Marcus Antonius (happy birthday to him btw), his comparison with Demetrios, Julius Caesar, and currently at Alexander.

From what I read about Caesar's murder, I cannot believe how messy the whole situation is. His murderers are after him, if you ask me, of pure revenge and spite.

Their action is ineffective. They slew the person Caesar, but not the Dictator. They foolishly didn't plan what to do with his naming of the dignitaries, themselves being elected by Caesar himself on their political positions. So if Caesar's dictatorship was illegal, so were their positions. What a massive blunder.

Antonius uses this to his advantage and persuades them to not proclaim Caesar as dictator, and the conspirators agree because, they wanted to keep their positions.

But, Antonius soon after held maybe the speech which caused the biggest twist in history: He praised Caesar and read his will in public, which contained the people of Rome and named every citizen an heir to some sum of money.

This turned the Roman mob against Brutus and others, and they practically routed the conspirators out of Rome. Antonious and Octavius (Caesar's heir) take control of Rome, and defeat Brutus and Cassius in the battle of Philippi.

I am currently reading about this stuff, so I hope someone can join this discussion. If one can dispute the mentioned above, I'd be happy to read.
