WC Draw: Zico Attacks FIFA

Zico, Japan’s Brazilian Coach and legendary striker, has let rip with a series of complaints about the functioning of football’s ‘high church’: FIFA. Apart from battering Blatter, Zico zapped the 2006 World Cup Organisation.
"It’s always the same. They always help the big-name nations. It’s all carefully planned so that it’s always the usual suspects who get to the final. It’s nothing more than a deliberate set-up. All this seeding and ranking stuff is engineered beforehand.”
“Think about it – we’re going into the draw already KNOWING that Brazil and Germany can only mathematically meet in the final. That takes a lot of the draw’s legitimacy away for a start. Brazil may well be World Cup holders, but they played the same WCQ scheme that Japan did, so why are they favoured in Group F?”
Zico also feared that referees would naturally sway to favour the big boys. “That already happened to us here [in Germany] during the Confederations Cup. We should be afraid of biased refereeing because, for example, if we fall in Germany’s group we’ve got a big handicap because the host nation always goes through”.
