I am very surprised by his improvement. I always thought his defence is the heavy liability, but he fared very well against one of the best attacking team and still provided offensive contribution. We could be looking at our new captain who locks LWB position for years ahead.

He has the technical ability for the highest level. The question has always been more so about his size and athleticism. I think this was a coming of age performance. We know now he can play his game against anyone. Ideally we’ll be able to keep Dimarco, Bastoni, Barella, and Lautaro through their prime years and add a few more stalwart pieces.
