I don't understand why we would invest in another 'regista' type player considering for all intents and purposes we are probably more endowed in that position than we are anywhere else on the park(Benassi, Kuzmanovic, Kovacic) bar GK. Also, considering that we have no wingers...oh, yeah, Schelotto, barely any fullbacks that that be relied on consistently, no depth up front, and no DM with any physical presence unless we bring back Duncan.

So spending 7.5M on a regista who admittedly does have plenty of promise doesn't really make sense to me, especially considering our budgetary limitations. Unless we plan on using Kovacic further up field and if that's the case then why the hell hasn't that happened already?

@shingayi. He isnt even a sure a starter for river. Hes pretty green and not ready. Now, hes NOT a dm. hes frail and average defensively. his positioning can improve with age. now, what he excells at, is picking up the ball from the deep and start the attack. Has good range of passing and vission, very technical player. Is he worth 7 mln? no. 3-5mln realistically. And as I said in the mids rumour thread; if we get him, we should loan him out to a serie a team where he will have playing time.

what worries me is that this all starts to get incompatiable with having guarin. to pair with guarin you need a full DM imho

In this case, Guarin will just continue to play as an AM, and Kovacic can either rotate with either Guarin or Cirigliano.

So, 2 AMs (Guarin and Kovacic), and 2 ball playing midfielders (Kuzmanovic, Cirigliano).

Or, we can play one of each from these two sets of players in a 4-3-3 with a destroyer behind them.

its worth pointing out i guess that 7m for cirgiliano doesnt mean anything - e.g. it doesnt mean he's going to start automatically.

i dont think he has an eu passport (??) so its quite possible he spends next season on loan

Guarin's defensively too weak (in terms of positioning) and his decision making while in possession is too questionable to play in a formation that uses 2 central midfielders.

But he is fine if there's another person covering for him.

Hence, I'd play him as a CM in a 3 CM formation (i.e. 4-3-2-1 or 4-3-1-2), but I'd prefer him to play as an AM in a formation like (3-4-1-2, 3-4-3, or 4-2-3-1)
