Real Madrid Agree Xabi Alonso Deal

After weeks of wrangling a deal has been reached...
Real Madrid have had an offer of €32 million accepted by Liverpool for Xabi Alonso and a pre-accord has been sealed that will see the player move back to Spain this week, according to a report.

A meeting between the two clubs in Barcelona at the weekend saw a thaw in the frosty stand-off, and with Los Merengues showing some goodwill, an agreement was reached, Sport state.

Liverpool were holding out for £30 million, while Madrid were keen to pay only €30million, but the rise of €2m has seen the Reds accept the offer.

The Spanish giants' director general, Jose Angel Sanchez, met with Liverpool's financial director, Christian Purslow, in a hotel within walking distance of Camp Nou.

Talks were friendly, but firm, Sport believe, with Madrid accepting that they would have to move their bid up if they were to persuade Liverpool to let the player go.

Alonso has made it clear that he wants to make the switch and become part of Florentino Perez's new look Galacticos, and for such a sum Rafa Benitez is willing to do business.

A deal with the player himself was reached weeks ago and he has had to remain patient while the two clubs postured and searched for a way forward, but now that has happened he can prepare for the transfer.

Before and after Liverpool's friendly against Espanyol in Barcelona on Sunday, Alonso, whose father Periko played for the Blaugrana, remained tight-lipped about joining Real Madrid.

I hope this deal soon will be official, so will be easy way for us to buy Sneijder, I think if Real will sign Xabi Alonso then they wouldn't need Sneijder, so we can benefit from Wesley Sneijder

Btw,dont know if you know but guilleme ballague reckons inter and yes........man city entered the bidding for alonso last night,seems his heart is set on madrid to me,but ballague says "two clubs,possiblly inter and city are willing to pay bigger transfer fee",who knows?

We would never pay a transfer fee of more than 30mills + for Alonso. Good player, but definetely not worth that much.

Also if Liverpool are really offering 22mills for Aquilani, Sensi should take that money, and run with it, before Benitez gets smart. Actually Sensi can walk or crawl with that money, Benitez isnt getting smart anytime soon.

Neither is ibra worth £65 mill but it was paid(more or less),nor benzema £30mill,nor johnson £17mill etc etc,who knows?just teling yer what ballague is saying,thats all,and he IS normally on the ball,as regards rafa.........yes he's made some bad buys,but havnt they all?still prefer him over JM,all about opinions isnt it?got to admit that im worried about this aqualini deal tho.

Yeah, maybe Guti was a great playmaker and perhaps there's still much left of that in him, but he is not capable to make it in starting XI. As a substitute he will be good, but not as a regular starter.

I dont think they mean he is an integral part of the NT but that he plays for his NT...which he does. I think its a good buy, if he can stay fit liverpool have got themselves a great player. What a mercato real is having though. Benzema is a player they could have gone without but all the other players they got are real quality.
