Thing with those Portuguese clubs is that usually there are 3rd party companies behind these South-American talents. They basically own the rights of the player or at least significant proportion of those. And when they sell these relatively small club (in European context), they will keep some proportion of player's ownership. Then when the talent grows and big clubs are knocking the doors, it's not the whole price going to Porto/Benfica/etc. Or then it is the whole amount of the announced sum, but more is paid under the counter.

All this shit is illegal in FIFA rules but this system simply is there still. And not much has been done to kill it.

Normally big clubs in Europe do not want to get involved to these 3rd parties. Barcelona got involved with Neymar and some Barcelona directors are in jail as we speak (if I've understood correctly) or at least they were sentenced.

FC Hollywood at its best.

80m euros. The most expensive transfer in the history of Bayern. The previous one was Tolisso for 41.5m.

That's crazy, I'd expect 80 for Ruben Neves, but not for him.

Let's put it this way. If Inter was rumoured to sign him for 1/3 of that price, I'd still be against it.

Considering how much players sell for nowadays, Genoa really did milan a favour and gave Piatek to them for peanuts.

He’s a good player and very versatile, kept Mendy out the France team although admittedly he was still not 100%. We should look at his younger brother as a leftback option if Madrid is willing to sell him.

To be fair the dude had half a good season behind him and thats it. While he does not look like a one season wonder i still think he might very well be one.

But is Lucas Hernandez good enough to be the second most expensive defender and to become Bayern's top earner with 13,5m after Lewandowski, Müller and Neuer (15m)?

And consider that he has a knee injury that will keep him out until the start of the next season.

I feel like there's zero doubt that Bayern way overpaid for Lucas; he's versatile but if €75-80M is Van Dijk territory then I feel very safe in saying Lucas can't impact a game or even be the kind of dynamic force in a backline that Van Dijk can be (obviously, Van Dijk only plays as a CB while Lucas can, and does, have the ability to play out wide).

According to Marca, Lucas probably had a release clause of around €100M. He had always struck me as being Atleti born-and-bred, and reinforced that image when he broke onto the scene last year while his little brother ended up being a traitor, and so I really wouldn't be surprised if both Lucas and Atleti alike milked Bayern for everything they could given that; that his release clause was very high and that he would've been very happy to stay where he was. I'm surprised he's left as soon as he has but, at the same rate, he'd be a fool to pass up what he's going to earn at Bayern so nobody should fault him.

Few months later, Marca had reported his release clause was 80m.

Other sources had reported the same so i tend to believe the most recent reports. I don't think Atletico wanted to lose Lucas and that's why they were trying to convince him to stay since January when Bayern were initially willing to trigger the release clause.

Bayern acting smartly. They are probably going with Kimmich, Pavard, Süle, Hummels, Lucas, and Alaba into the new Season. So they basically have two players each per position even though they have 6 players instead of 8. This is great for the team chemistry as you can rotate often, but still every player gets enough playing time.

Sky Italia: Manchester City are in advanced talks to sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting. The agreement is close for €55M, the Portuguese is ready to accept the contract until 2024.

Sampdoria had sold him to Sporting for 10m in 2017.

Expectations are that after the CL semifinals this week, the official confirmation of De Ligt to Barcelona will be made - Agresti & Calciomercato reiterating a lot of what other reliable Spanish journalists (Domenech & Polo) have already intimated, citing Overmars communicating this to Paratici & Juve that deal to Barcelona is done

Great news if Juve missed on De Ligt. They desperately need to replace the old guard and there aren't many top cb available. Especially not at the prices Juve are willing to pay.

imho, it would be correct to wait till after the final of the champions league, if ajax advance. it would be unfair to put this kind of pressure on any player, even more so considering de ligt is only 19.

and despite what some papers/site may have written, this is probably how things will go, i find it unlikely that an announcement will be given this thursday or wednesday.

@firmino, I don't disagree but based on comments from Barcelona board members & local press I am inclined to think it will indeed be announced ahead of a potential final between the two clubs.
