Seedorf fucked Ronaldo`s girlfriend so he had to leave.

Yes, he fled the town. Come on man, that's most probably gossip media horse shit :) The articles back then suggested that it was Ronaldo who left for this reason btw. It's quite a ridiculous story as she also moved to Spain that year.

Is that why Ronaldo and Seedorf were close when he went to Milan to be his teammate? Is that also why the same Mediaset reporters that made up this shit also said a week later that Seedorf granted the Ronaldo couple his home in Madrid until they got settled?

Seedorf left because Cuper didn't want him to stay and we thought Francesco Coco would have been the cure to our left flank problems. He was surplus and even lots of fans felt that way back then.

Yeah, Coco wasn’t called il nuovo Maldini for nothing.

I have a shady memory about why we let him go. Was it because of Cuper again?

Yeap, he was deemed "not 4-4-2 material" along other things.

He was underperforming with us anyway. Maybe he wasn't being utilised correctly but Cuper was doing very well compared to our previous managers at the time. So it made sense to let go of him at the time and trust the manager.

The topic of Seedorf kinda randomly came to mind for me today, and the obvious question of "why the hell would get rid of the guy"...I trust that this is an accurate representation of the situation at the time. Obviously a quick look at Francesco Coco's stats profile makes it clear this was a horrendous misstep of a "trade" in retrospect; 26 Serie A games for us vs. 300 for Seedorf with the cousins. Oops.

Of course, I feel like I've read here before that Cuper also had a falling out of sorts with R9 as well, and obviously R9 wasn't known for great body maintenance and this was also right at the time when he was recovering from his ACL injury, but someone help me out here (I realize this might be the wrong thread)...the only thing 8 year old me knew in the summer of 2002 was that R9 lit up the World Cup. That's my earliest memory watching this sport, R9 and that World Cup. I had no idea what club team he played for at the time, I wouldn't have known "Inter Milan" (English media, not me) from literally anything else...how did he begin that World Cup an Inter player, dominate the tournament, and end that tournament heading for Madrid?

IIRC, Ronaldo then asked Moratti something like "Choose me or Cuper?". The rest is history.
Yeah that is really strange regarding Seedorf. Was our LB really that bad we willing to sacrifice Seedorf who was one of our better midfielder at that time (that 2 goals against Rube)? I know Cuper prefer 4-4-2 and Seedorf was played as RM at that time, but come on..

Ronaldo leaving was mostly on Cuper and Moratti. The guy didn't want out and Vieri pretty much concluded that when he said that him, Recoba and Ronaldo went to Moratti in the summer of 2002, stating they'd slash their salaries by 30% to allow us to get Nesta.

Moratti was always trigger happy and at the time had decided to side with Cuper who had just lost the Scudetto and also lost a semi final in Europe (Uefa Cup; funnily enough Milan lost in the other one so instead of a Madonina Uefa final we had a quite nice Feyenoord vs Dortmund battle).
And Cuper wasn't liked by most players either.
But Moratti wanted to keep a coach for a change since he was tossing them around like crazy and wanted stability.

Cuper would go out saying he wants Ronaldo to stay because he'd be crazy otherwise, but he kinda prefered a striker who could be useful in his crossfest by heading the ball.

Seedorf was also a casualty here because he wasn't a winger and he also wasn't a cross-first player. Couldn't play DM either, so surplus.
Same reason we passed on Kaka (potential Right wing for us) because he was an AMC. Ironically we had first option on him from Sao Paulo.

And Ronaldinho as well. More of a light second forward like Recoba, but Moratti didn't even attempt to buy him after Cuper said no. Under any other circumstances, he'd definitely be ours...

Very nice background info, thanks for that! I was too young to remember this all clearly.

If i listen too your story can I state that: if Moratti parted ways with Cuper; we could have bought Nesta, Seedorf would not have left and we probably bought Kaka and Ronaldinho?

That worked pretty well for us in a handsight in that case…😂

Can we make a topic for these stories? I would love to hear more stories and background information about certain things that happened especially when I was younger.

Coco attended more Fashion Shows than he played matches for Inter. And don't even get me started on Seedorf. It was totally on Cuper. He was benched for half a season and had to watch players who had no business playing for Inter, like Farinos and Guly, start over him. What a travesty.

As for the reason Cuper didn't want Seedorf? Simple. He saw him as a bad fit for his favorite 4-4-2.

No, Nesta wouldn't have come and I assume only one of Ronaldinho/Kaka.
