Vieri heads for the Hull
Sunday 29 June, 2008
Christian Vieri has been so horrified by the Atalanta fans’ hate campaign that he is moving abroad to sign for Hull City.
The well-travelled striker was due to return for a third spell at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia, where he began his career.
However, the supporters were furious at this comeback, considering him a ‘traitor’ after he walked out to join Fiorentina.
Vieri had been at the club for just one season and barely set foot on the field due to a series of injury problems.
The campaign to prevent this return took the form of a petition, posters plastered around the city of Bergamo and even a heap of rubbish poured on to the gates of the villa where Vieri was meant to be staying.
Considering such a poor reception, it is reported Bobo preferred to look elsewhere and is aiming for his first playing experience in England.
According to the Daily Star, Vieri has agreed a £10,000 per week contract with Hull City.
It is certainly not his first foray abroad, as he was top scorer in Spain with Atletico Madrid and played in France with Monaco.
Vieri speaks fluent English, as he spent much of his childhood in Australia.
