Yeah, but who's going to cover for the defence? Despite his howler for Udinese's first goal, Medel is the best (least bad) man for the job. M'Vila's fitness is comparable to Cassano's and we know how defensively adept the rest of that midfield is.

So, unless we sit very deep, you're looking at a very exposed backline. If we sit deep, it will be a very boring 0-0.

The most important aspect to playing a flat 442 well is having quality wingers, so I think your side would fail miserably. The only top side that plays such a formation nowadays is Atletico, and they've got like 5 good wingers.

We can't play 4-4-2 for the obvious aforementioned reasons. We can only play 3-5-2 or 4-3-1-2 with any hope of success. I favour 4-3-1-2 as see last time out, beside we have nowhere else to put Hernanes but in the hole, which is his best position anyhow.
