Believe or not we had more possession in both times, but the first half we couldn't create anything with the ball. We ended the game with 56% - 44%.

Why are so many of you criticizing Rocchi? What exactly did you expect of him playing as a lone striker with the rest of the team playing so badly that their first touches were instant turnovers?

The player who deserves the most criticism in my eyes is Kuzmanovic. Selection of players such as Cambiasso / Guarin / Gargano can be justified, but as far as I'm concerned, in no instance should Kuzmanovic play ahead of Kovacic.

I watched the repetition and put special attention to this because I couldn't understand Stankovic substitution. Honestly I don't think Kuzmanovic was that bad, he's very much like Motta because he likes to play simple passes, receive and distribute it quickly. I remember a lot of people saying Motta was invisible too and I think the same is happening here. I still can't understand why Deki instead of him.... maybe because he's a better defender??? But if that's the case then why no Cambiasso?

Kuzmanovic is absolutely a poor-mans Motta. A very, very poor man.

As I've said in the past, Kuzmanovic can hold the ball and pass it quite decently but is arguably not as capable in that aspect as Motta. Additionally, he doesn't seem to pose the aerial threat that Motta did, and his defending is quite atrocious. He's very clumsy in that regard. Motta could be, at times as well hit and miss, but Motta put in a far better defensive shift than Kuzmanovic, and was great at doing the dirty work on the pitch and IMO, tactically more astute. Let's stop comparing the two though.

Deki turned out to be a very good sub by Strama. Clearly Strama wanted someone to help distribute the ball in midfield, spread the play and also help out in defense - all attributes of Deki's game. This is what I think Strama expected from Kuzmanovic who was unable to fulfill this role and do these tasks. You mentioned that he was invisible and people sometimes say that about a player who was quietly doing his job but I'm a big believer that being 'invisible' in that context, doesn't exist. Being invisible means you weren't involved - as Kuzmanovic wasn't. As far as I'm concerned, you can either be a standout performer a la Palacio or Cambiasso, be quietly useful, but still visible i.e. Zanetti, be noticeably crap, like Guarin against Fiorentina, or a non-participant (which for me, qualifies as a poor performance, such as Rocchi and Kuzmanovic last match.

The only question is whether Strama should have elected Kovacic over Stankovic but Deki was arguably a better fit for this match and in the end, the results that Deki delivered justified Strama's selection of him.

I agree with some of your points, and I can see that Kuzmanovic is not very good defensively. But I do think he didn't play as bad as some said. As I said I watched the game a second time putting special attention to him, and he was there asking for the ball, passing it correctly when he had it. He even made two good runs upfront, one in which he made a very good shot and the other one they didn't pass him the ball. Offensively I can't see anything Deki did that Kuz couldn't done... Defensively? I agree Deki looked more solid, but then again I can't understand why Deki and not Cambiasso or anyone else. In a very difficult game like this one, playing and old dude who has only played like 30 minutes the whole season sounds a very bad idea to me, but thankfully it worked.

Also, the second half the players played with more intensity, that definitely helped our defense more, not only Stankovic's presence. Things would had been different if they played like that since the first minute, it's not just that Kuzmanovic is bad defending, but the whole team wasn't playing like one, without ideas or desire to play (with some exceptions).

Have to give credit to Perreira for his three good crosses from left flank and one of those was assist to Palacio's goal. At least he did deliver decent crosses whereas he is generally our top detested player.
So given the quite reasonable performance against Catania, his confidence has got to be boosted lil bit i hope. It is almost 90 percent likely that he'll be playing LB against Tot, so hope he'll deliver at least couple of good crosses like he did against Catania. I am certainly not expecting big from Perreira, just saying his mentality would be in good shape after "the credible" performance
