Reflections of the game.

Palacio really should be the bottom of the pecking order now. Not that he can't contribute, but it just seems that everyone else can contribute more.

Gabigol is still extremely raw. Even though he scored and I'm thrilled for him, he shouldn't be starting. Especially not instead of Candreva. All the moments where Candreva gets rid of the ball before losing it, Gabi tried to play himself out of trouble. Also, Candreva does loads more on defense. But Gabigol does bring flair and excitement on the break, which candreva doesn't really do.

Gagliardini is really the best fucking player on the team right now. I'm so unbelievably happy we got this kid. If Icardi ever leaves, give this guy the armband. He is the heartbeat the whole team runs on.

Banega is the greatest super-sub we have on the team right now. He always has sucha big impact when he comes on in the second half. I really hope he is okay with that role because he's excelling at it so much right now, although I wouldn't mind seeing a Gag-JM-Banega midfield. Still in love with Kondogbia right now so it's hard to not include him in the squad.

It's a shame Miranda is going to miss the Roma match, but I'm confident we can get a result at home, especially with Icardi back. Boy better be motivated after that bullshit ban. I hate to say it because it really adds pressure to the team, but I agree with the papers, that this game is going to be the make or break point of the season. History would show us that we crumble at these moments, but this team feels different, we've overcome a lot of obstacles.

Forza Ragazzi UCL or not, this has been a greater season than the past 4 imo.

I couldn't watch the match because of work. How did we play? Is the match worth watching? Did the Gagliardini-Joao Mario duo work in midfield? Any player who performed better/worse than expected?

The game's awful.
Gaglia-Joao wasn't too good.
Everyone was decent tbh nothing spectacular.

I think there was also lots of sloppy play by our recent standards. Misplaced passes and the like. It's like the guys weren't concentrating enough. It also shows that the system built for Icardi doesn't work for Palacio.

When the forward makes that kind of mistake it's not about the system though. :eek:blivious:

But yes, overall we were subpar.

I felt like the main problem was our midfield once again it seemed unbalanced which is no suprise when Brozo and Kondo are missing and medel plays as a cb. Imho we need two of Gags,Brozo and Kdog in our midfield in order to have a balanced midfield.
This is also why i think we can only play one of Banega/J.Mario in midfield imho we loose balance when we play them both.

I agree with you, Gags + Kdog/Bro is a must. We look very disjointed in the midfield yesterday as Gags struggled to control the centre pretty much on his own.

The best way to incorporate Mario and Banega into the team together is if Mario plays on the right in place of Candreva. Mario played that role for Portugal last summer, though I don't think he did particularly well. However, if Candreva's form does not pick up and Banega continues to shine in cameo's, this could be an option to try. Banega's thru ball for Dumbo yesterday was sublime, the kind of stuff Sneijder used to do. Icardi could use stuff like that.

not a great performance but GABIGOLLLLLLL

a nice FU to those that say he doesnt look like he offers much

great play by banega too, another player FIF seems to have given up on recently.

great save in last minute but i thought handa caused it by not claiming the ball in first place

Samir, thank god for Samir. Out of everyone he is the one at the club that deserves CL the most.

It was harder than it looked, think Palacio moved before. Also think Palacio as a CF is better utilised with a partner, he doesn't really work well since his movement is always outside the box.

Palacio is best utilised far away from the pitch at least at Inter's level he is done,finished,toasted...

I agree on that but I just feel like J.Mario is extremely important to our midfield, with his movement and his passing and his overall smart play. Imho these are his main attributes and i think they are best used in the center of the park. Sadly this means that one of our best players whether it s banega or JM will sit on the bench most of the time. I dont really have a problem with that yes this season it looks like banega spends too much time on the bench but I m pretty sure will play european football next year whether it s EL or CL does not really matter and if we do i dont see a problem in having two class players for the same position since most likely there will be enough games for both of them.

On using Mario as a RW your right that would be the best option to integrate both Mario and Banega. But also with that i have got my share of problems. First of all i believe Candreva did fine up until now so i dont see a need for change there. Secondly i think banega and J mario would not be that effective together since they take up pretty much the same space on the field even if you play mario on the right he s gonna drift inside.
Also i fell like we would need to change formation to make mario work on the wing simply because on the other wing is gonna be perisic a guy who usually hugs the line so i feel like our attack would be heavily skewed to the left with mario cutting in to the middle and perisic hugging the line on the left. I feel like portugal was successful with mario there because they played with two strikers up front one could move to the right when joao was cutting in thus creating more space either for joao or for himselfe. Also i think i have to point out that Portugal played with CR and Nani upfront most of the time, both used to play as wingers and both moved out wide quite a bit Imho this also helped mario a lot to play on that RW for Portugal. Also if we d play with two upfront assuming we still play with 4 at the back we d have to sacrifice k dog or gags in order to start both banega and mario. If on the other hand we go with 3 at the back we d have to sacrifice perisic or play a very offensive lineup with no fullbacks in it at all.

Bottom line as much as i d like to see both Mario and Banega start i just dont think it s possible without major tweaks to our squad. Also who ever thinks that Mario can just take Candrevas place like that is delusional, yes they both played on the RW spot very successful but they are very different types of players and switching one for the other within a given formation without major changes to the tactical approach and gameplan is not gonna work out.

Also we have 13 games left we re currently doing very well i dont see the reason to try out mario on the rw atm. And i feel like people need to get used to players of banegas caliber sitting on the bench I mean we want to be a top club right? Name me one top club that does not have a player of Banegas stature being second choice i dont think there is any. Also that AM position is arguably the only one where we have two absolute top players at the Moment so it only makes sense for one of the to sit on the bench when for most other positions we have one clear starter and a back up that is quite a step down to the starter especially in attack and defense.

We don't really have a fixed second captain. Palacio, Miranda, Medel, Handanovic. All of them have had it.
