Exhausted Bielsa Says Goodbye To Argentina

Argentina boss Marcelo Bielsa has resigned from his prestigious post, reports the DyN news agency.
“He took this decision because there are many things that have literally exhausted him,” said Argentine football federation president Julio Grondona.

Bielsa just led Argentina to the Olympic gold at Athens 2004, but was also one of the main culprits for the team’s failure at the 2002 World Cup.

Former Boca Juniors boss Carlos Bianchi and former Inter boss Hector Cuper are the two main candidates to replace Bielsa.

Gismo, you're an Argentina fan?

Bielsha is and always has been treated poorly by the media, to be honest. He's not the greatest coach in the world, but he's also done some good for the national team. Before World Cup 2002 he was rated well and regarded pretty highly but since then he's been considered nothing more then a clown.

This year he's done all his best to keep the Argentine fans happy by calling up Tevez, D'Allesandro, Saviola and all those youngsters that deserved to be given a chance. He was very unlucky not to win the Copa America and his poor results VS their main rivals Brazil is the main reason why he didn't stick around. He's been able to keep Argentina very consistent in the South American WC qualifiers IMO, but he just hasn't won many big games.

I don't see any big difference with getting a new coach, since it isn't going to be Bianchi but rather Peckerman who's won with the younger Argentine national teams. Bielsha was a defensive liability, often using even 2 or 3 defenders and having wingbacks. Basically, his knowledge of tactics and formations was just completelly twisted. Often playing some of his best players in their wrong positions. He got much better the past couple months, but too little too late. I thought winning the Olympics would have secured his spot as the coach untill 2006, but I guess he couldn't quite handle the pressure that comes with the job. If he were to fail at the next WC, I doubt he'd be able to ever go back to his country to be honest.

Well I´m not exactly a big fan of Argentina. I like them very much especially because of JZ and our other Argentians, and also because I like a lot of their other players. The reason why I´m happy that he´s gone is because he always insisted to get our players for stupid friendlies. Then our players came home to Italy tired and didn´t play 100% in their next match...

So basically I hated this guy because he was bad news for Inter! :fero:

He wasted soo much telent on som many tournaments that they could have won under someone else...Lets hope the next coach is wiser and actually wins something for this great soccer country...
