I meant from here on out...There's no reason to believe he's going to have any other players close the gap unless he has some precipitous drop in form for a long while...or injury I suppose

Ahh...ok I c what u mean...but I disagree. Messi has been crisp with Barca & piss poor with the Albiceleste. Things like that are taken into consideration when giving out personal trophies...Basically other players don't have to play at the level Messi plays with Barca to win it...Just as German pointed out above: Sneijder for example deserved it last year; or even Forlan....Eto'o in 2006 is another good example: Was awesome for club but missed out on a WC spot. Cost him big time.

The gap is large between 1st & 2nd, IMHO...I don't see it closing anytime soon either
