Have always viewed the forum but had to make an account today to comment on this disappointing match. At least we're running away with the second star at seasons end. Our weaknesses were shown today IMO. We have 3-4 very top players but a lot of older players and they were exposed in tough hard fought matches like today. Especially Mkhi. The state of italian teams in general aint very promising. No team really has money and with our limits we've done extremely well being the best team over the last 3 years, we arguably gave away last season fighting to the final of CL - I didn't think Napoli was very strong tbh I just don't think we were 100% in for the title as we were in the CL last year. Bilan got a healthy financial budget and they still get slapped regularly, so it's clear buying all young talents isn't the way, but neither is too much age.. Inzaghi has definitely figured out how to conquer Italy but CL is a different ball game. He tried to cantenaccio through this leg and we paid for it, albeit with terrible chances wasted.

We need to refresh the team for next season, while we will have the second star I'm sure teams like bilan will reinforce and they are a very young team, juventus will be there too. Most of all for CL we need more legs IMO. A big sale might be necessary to finance some younger reinforcements. I'm a bit disappointed tbh, because our transfer strategy has been limited. As dominant as we've been in Italy, when you look at our squad other than arguably Lautaro & Bastoni who would fetch us more than 50m? And even then, you sell one of them two we end up with a huge gap to fill. While a team like bilan isn't doing shit they could go out and sell leao, theo, maigan, tomori or those few young mids they have and get 100's of millions to reinvest should the team need an overhaul. Management deserves credit for what they have to work with tbh - I will say that I'm proud of this team but given our form I really didn't see us getting knocked out by Atletico. If anything I saw a difficult semi or final vs madrid, psg or city being the only way out.

Also, I wouldn't say Italy is very 'inferior' to spain nor england. IT's sometimes luck of the draw. Napoli's been in garbage form, Milan had the hardest group, and we were simply unlucky. Last season all the italian teams drew against each other. Milan eliminated Napoli, we slapped Milan, but tbh Inzaghi has Milan specifically figured out. We're a stronger more experienced team than them, but above all else the way we play is Milans cryptonite. They could have eliminated one of the other teams and we could've kicked their asses in the final - again, was the way things played out. Same with Napoli, last season in CL they could've been a wild card but leao felt like playing and basically eliminated them by himself. Had Napoli - milan - inter not drawn against each other we could've had an all italian final easily and easily won. CL requires a little bit of luck is all I'm saying and Atletico had it tonight.

I know that a penalty shootout exerts an extremely heavy amount of pressure to players, but our players seemed to crumble too easily. It was as if their main concern was to finish the game quickly instead of scoring the PK. The most appalling was Lautaro, not even 3 seconds between the whistle and his kick?

Either you're the most blatant Milan troll alive, or you let them live rent free in your head. They're 15 points behind us with a zero sum manager and an illegal sale investigation. Let it go.

How do you not think Barella is worth 50M? Not the point of your post, but still.

I saw this too... The guy just isn't mentally cut out for these games.

Come on, Dzeko is 38yo. Do you think you can fight in 2 competitions with a geriatric grandpa as one o your main strikers?
I don’t know, All I know is that there is rumours Dzeko has 18 goals in turkey in less played games than all of them added together. I doubt it’s true but what i know is true is that Dzeko would have finished every single chance that thuram waste of a player missed

Without Thuram's contribution, we would not be this season where we are. The guy scored 12 Serie A goals , 7 assists and 1 CL goal. So this was not his day. No big deal. Waste of a player, not! Comparing Turkish League to Serie A?:)

I think he’s saying we should have kept Dzeko instead of getting Arnautovic or Sanchez. I think you could make that argument to be fair.

I personally think it was time to move on from Dzeko either way. I just wish the replacement wasn’t Arnautovic.

But Arna scored 4 goals and 3 assists in a limited amount of playing time. Ok, so he got injured, but Dzeko's legs are gone as well.

Well, Zielinski would be here next year and hope Frattesi gets better at pressing and carrying the ball. Get rid of Klassen and get another mid.
Sadly Zielinski is different player than Mkhi, i don't see him taking Mkhi's role. It's hard to find Mkhi replacement.

Did anyone realize why Buchanan was on the line? And why Inzaghi replaced Bastoni? And why did absolutely dead Mkhitaryan play for so long?

Atleast now some people will stop with rubbish claim that we are top 3 in Europe. I told you, one thing is a domination in Seria A, and that definitely doesnt prove that we are among best in Europe. I knew it that fucking Atletico will harm us, but I was laughed and poked for that. Football is not a fucking Playstation game, it doesnt work like that. Dont expect us to beat best in Europe like Real, City or even Bayern with Mhiki, Darmian, DeVrij, players that are in latter stage of their career..Plus our best players mostly dissapear in crucial big matches like this. Stop overrating our squad, for a start. Dissapointed but not so much cause I knew that this is gonna be really hard. It is what it is.
Now lets focus on scudetto and try not to fuck up that, cause that was our main goal. Some people here lived in illusion.

Tbh, we were better than them in 2 games. 4 clear chances in 2 games and 1 defensive mistake that led to the goal. I mean it is not like they dominated us even today, Scored 3 minutes before the regulation time. 3 unrealized penalties and our misses that was the problem. So, is Dortmund elite club now that they advanced?

Sad but.. this is football too. We had our chances and we didn't take them. Football gives, football takes away. What it is, it's here.
How to continue in Serie A now? All matches without added value, only the Milan derby..

Maybe he can adopt, could not be worse than Klassen, right?

I agree with almost everything, but we can sell not only Lautaro or Bastoni. Dimarco, Thuram, Hakan, Barella could bring good money as well. Our problem is that we continue to bringing old players, which doesn't look positive for our future.
Inzaghi also has his fault, relying mostly of experience but some steps shall be taken in that direction. The first one is smooth transition of Mkhitaryan and do not offering him a new deal.

You have to trust your captain.

Taking him off the list would destroy his confidence even more than that miss will.
Well, there is definitely a bigger possibility that a "bum" Sensi would score a penalty than Lautaro. Or Klaassen lol

Agree and that what make me even more mad, in extra time we were better than them, I don't know why we were letting them dominate us so hard in second half, the players didn't even try to attack and still somehow we managed to get great chances that thuram and barella fucked up big time, the players lost almost every ball immediately, just played for pass the time instead of taking advantage they all out attacking and try to put them into more danger, but this fucking players played right into the atletico hands, we score goal with great counter and got to another chances with ease, what showing how much clowns our players are for not to try counter them more and preferred passing only back all the fucking second half, we the better team, but we gave them the game on a plate with our players clownish attitude...

With this early exit, I wonder if it would effect our next season transfer strategy. Since we will not receive more money and management could feel that the player don't deserve higher salary with this kind of performance
Not really. We are getting free transfer Taremi and free transfer Zielinski. Not clear with Dumfries deal.

No we were not better. In one game better team can lost, but in two.. Overall you cant say we didnt deserve to lose. We did. After 2 0 on agregate we shat our pants. Whole team sucked. To claim we are top 3 in Europe was wrong.
