I think we're definitely heading towards more hybrid formations next year based on market rumours recently (Yeah I know, very reliable). From what I can see/read, the players we're most heavily linked with are:

-Chiesa
-Tonali
-Mertens
-Giroud
-Vidal
-Emerson/Alonso
-Kumbulla
-Pogba (Biasin has been talking about this recently, but I don't think it'll ever happen)

Conte seems like he wants to be able to swap between his 3-5-2, a 3-4-1-2 and a 3-4-2-1 smoothly and based on the personnel available/most in form. There's room for a 4-3-1-2 as well in there somewhere.

Chiesa is, to be honest, the one who most makes me think that we're heading for a formation change, as it would be somewhat idiotic to spend whatever money Commisso is wanting to then either waste him as a second striker, which he said he does not enjoy playing, or limit his attacking abilities by placing him in Candreva's role. I think he'd function as a wide forward, giving width to the team while one of Eriksen/Lautaro/Sensi/Mertens does the linking between the midfield and Lukaku/Giroud.

Vidal also gives us the option to play a 2 man midfield, as a Vidal-Brozovic/Vidal-Tonali pair has enough running and quality in it to function while we've all seen what happens when Brozovic has to deal with one of Vecino or Gagliardini as his only 'support'. Also gives the 'attacking' midfielder on the pitch (Eriksen/Sensi/Pogba lmao) more freedom, though I think we're all aware that no Conte team will ever play with a real 'fantasista'. I wish we could get someone of Kante/Casemiro's quality for that DM role, but we're not quite there yet.

I'm sure both Lukaku and Giroud can play as a lone striker as well as in a pair. Hopefully they won't have to be fielded together often though.

I wish just one report of us being linked with Telles would come out, instead of overpriced EPL goods. Still don't know what we've got planned for the right flank. Can't really think of a RWB that we can afford that would really make us take that jump in quality. inb4 Darmian

Anyway yeah, I don't think we'll be anywhere near as rigid in formation next year as we have been this year. I've had these thoughts swirling around recently and I haven't been at work for a couple of days so I thought I'd get them down.

Costa: 'Conte not a top coach'

Diego Costa claims Antonio Conte is not a ‘top, top manager’ and ‘would never last a season at Real Madrid’ because of his man-management. Costa won the Premier League under Conte in 2017, during the coach’s first season in charge of Chelsea.

However, their rapport broke down when the Inter boss informed the striker he was no longer needed by text message. The 31-year-old maintains he has ‘no hard feelings’ towards the ex-Italy CT but is not a fan of his ‘very suspicious’ approach.

“We [Conte and I] had problems off the pitch, but I think he is a really good manager. I have no hard feelings towards Conte,” he told ESPN.

But to be a top, top manager, he needs to change the human side of his management.”

Conte was tipped to take over at Real Madrid after Julen Lopetegui’s dismissal two years ago...

He is very suspicious. At a like, say, Real Madrid, he would never last a season.”

Alessio: 'Between Conte and Juve...'

Former assistant manager Angelo Alessio covers Antonio Conte’s decision to walk away from Juventus, taking the Inter job and why Maurizio Sarri ‘can only get stronger.’

Alessio was most recently in Scotland as manager of Kilmarnock, but was sacked in December. He is most famous as the assistant to Conte at Juventus from 2011-14, an experience that was abruptly and surprisingly ended when the coach walked away just days into pre-season training.

“These are old situations that remain between Antonio and the club,” Alessio told calciotoday.it.
“We in the staff never got into this matter and I don’t know what happened. Conte makes certain decisions by himself. I can’t say if it was a good choice or not, but the important thing is that Conte set the club on that path and Juventus continued to win afterwards.”

Conte is now back in Serie A with Juve’s arch-rivals Inter, making for a special Scudetto race atmosphere.
“Antonio always said he was a professional, so I am not surprised. Don’t forget, this is a man from Lecce who trained Bari, their bitter rivals. We have to respect his decision, even if many Juventus fans feel let down.

“I had decided to go out on my own after our time together at Chelsea. I had this experience in Scotland, but was fired despite the fact we were fifth in the table. I hope to find a new club, even though it’s difficult at this moment with the coronavirus situation. I’d prefer to get a job in Italy, but if I had an opportunity abroad, I’d happily take that.”

Much as having Conte on the Inter bench is unusual, the current Juve boss is Maurizio Sarri, who had fought the Bianconeri as coach of Napoli.
“Sarri has certainly had some problems, but despite that, he is still top of the table and in with a chance of reaching the Champions League quarter-finals. He’s got the results, so can only get stronger from here. Juventus have never lost the rule that winning is the only thing that matters. I think it has been a positive first season for Sarri and the club considered this choice carefully.”

Chiellini: 'Conte has Inter doubts'

Giorgio Chiellini remembers how Felipe Melo lasted ‘two days’ under Antonio Conte and claims the coach ‘will be having some doubts at night’ about Inter. Chiellini worked under Conte between 2011 and 2014, winning three Scudetti with the former Juventus midfielder, and his recollection of those years included another swipe at Melo.

“When Antonio Conte goes somewhere, he initiates a clean sweep,” read another excerpt of his upcoming autobiography, ‘Io, Giorgio’.
“The Nerazzurri had already decided not to focus on Icardi and Nainggolan, but Perisic was available. Conte called him up for preseason but then decided he wasn’t needed.
“At Juve, in his first season, Ziegler didn’t even finish preseason. Felipe Melo and Amauri lasted two days.
“Conte gets you involved like no-one else. He sends you against everything and everyone. He makes his team ready for anything.
“You’re either with him or against him, and if you’re against him you’re gone. So many players left us and it was the same at Inter this season.”

Despite his legendary status in Turin, the 51-year-old moved on to Inter last summer, so does the defender feel any bitterness?
“I forgive him for being at Inter just because I know him, I love him and I know he went there because he’s a serious professional.
“I’m sure, however, he’ll be having some doubts at night and that whenever he looks at the Inter badge on his jacket, those doubts come back a little.
“I stand by the idea that Juve are better than Inter, even if the best team don’t always win. The most consistent team win.”

Agree but isn't it time to get over this brehme? I mean, I'd do almost everything to let us win Serie A again.

Finally some good news: Eriksen convinces Conte

Inter playmaker Christian Eriksen has reportedly impressed enough in training and to book a place in the starting line-up against Napoli in the Coppa Italia.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has convinced Antonio Conte during the resumption of training and appeared in great shape physically for the restart of the season.

The newspaper reveals that Conte has picked Eriksen among the starters during his first tactical training sessions and points out that we might see a 3-4-1-2 with the Dane behind Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez when Inter travel to the San Paolo to face Napoli.

Inter trail the Partenopei by 1-0 from the first meeting at San Siro, reportedly scheduled to play the return leg on June 13, with the Final expected on June 17. Serie A is due to resume from June 20.

Gazzeta articles like that are the exact same as the ones that talk about Inter being scudetto favourites, the 'anti-Juve', etc. Written almost entirely for the purpose of heaping shit on us the moment something goes wrong.

Conte even called them out near the start of the season, saying 'Conosco il vostro giochino', or 'I know your little game'.

I will be pleasantly surprised if Conte switches to 3-4-1-2 or 4-3-1-2 as his plan a. He hasn't played with a trequartista before so he would be getting out of his comfort zone.

Thus far, playing to our "strengths" has led to us playing a 3-5-2 with the omission of Eriksen.

I have very little faith that Conte will sunddenly include Eriksen in the eleven, deploy him behind the front two and and change the team's formation to accommodate him. Personally, that sounds like a bit too much change for Conte.

Thus far conte has played the team familiar with his tactics who have trained with him since summer last year.

Why do people continually fail to understand that you can't just drop a player like eriksen into a different set of tactics, in a new team, in a new league and expect him to perform to the standards we as fans expect. He had a month before we stopped playing and people here act like conte despises him because he was easing him into the matchday squad.

This is why i stay in the whatsapp chat now. People here just dont think and type the first words they think of. And its so fucking negative.

He played 4312 against ludogorets so there’s hope.

Reports are saying he played 3412 and 4312... there’s hope he’ll at the very least tweak the formation.

Interested to see how he rotates the team. Given there is a game every 3 days and considering the intensity he asks of his team, it'll be important to rotate.

Yeah. 5 subs are super important. Said it before, that those 2 extra subs are perfect for Conte. He can use them both to wingbacks. He can order them to run as much as they can => tired => substitution and new guy in. But it's gonna be hell for the players, June and July in Italy :yao:
