Marchisio was always very talented. His problem was managers not finding a suitable formation for him to excel in. Frickin idiots like Ferrara and Ranieiri playing him as a wide midfielder :palm:

From a technical ability/quality perspective, Marchisio and Poli are not comparable. Marchisio ALWAYS had very good technical abilities, very good on the ball, good offensively, and always had an eye for the goal. Poli just doesn't have those abilities. And imo, the chances of that "developing" after he's already 23 years old are very, very slim imo.

Italian players usually matures late comparing to other nations. But if given the opportunity to choose, which one would you prefer Poli or Paulinho?
I would invest in the later, because Paulinho is a dominant player this year, and basically they are about the same age and cost about same amount of money.

I think that they are very much alike. It is just that Poli needs to have coach who will play him and trust him.

Poli would be my choice. You never know how those brazilians adapt when it have been already seen that Poli can play in this league.

he has serie a experience but he is so average. he is a fighter i give him that but other then that he is a far to limited. each time he played he needed a babysitter. it would be ideal if we could buy him and send him loan or something, to see how he will develop. i would be really surprised if this guy would become anything other then mediocre.

paulinho imo is far more ready for the first team. he is just overall a better player.

Nice to see someone else likes Borja Valero. :D

At first I was high on Poli because of his work rate and spirit. I think even said I could see him being Inter's captain one day because of his perceived tenacity. Yet, while I was thinking those things I never really saw him as a good, technical footballer. I pretty much agree with n4l on his opinion of Poli.

Started off at an impressive level but never really raised the bar after that. Towards the end of the season, Obi was looking far more impressive, plus Obi's always looked more talented too.

However for €6mil he should have been bought. At the very least you sell him for €6-12mil in a few years

Would like to state that there really is nothing wrong with Poli. He is a good midfielder who has plenty of time to grow...however, his ability to offer us something in the offensive department is seriously lacking.

It's clear as mud that we have enough central midfielders. We need either pure destroyers or most importantly, players that can offer some offensive improvement.

For the record, Obi > Poli for me.

Poli should be signed if we rid Stankovic.

Nothing wrong with him, but nothing special about him either.

Dont really understand all the hype surrounding him myself.

Seems its a choice between:

Go for the safe option and get Poli

Or

Roll the dice and buy Paulinho

We could just sign him. He may or may not become a started for us in the future, but he showed enough potential to bet on his price increasing in the next couple of years. At the very least we could send him to another club for a year or two then if we don't need him we will likely sell him for a good profit.

I think we're trying to get Paulinho, and if he doesn't want to come (as it looks like he doesn't want to leave) we'll settle for Poli
That's what I'm guessing.

personally i believe it would be another mistake if we let him go especially after the growth he showed throughout the season. also, he is young and would be perfect for that rejuvenation thing we have been discussing on this forum for a while now..... go figure

Poli does'nt go with Samp to their training camp, I hope the deal will be done soon. It'll be a shame if we don't get him/get him for more expensive price than the one that was agreed.

His passion, fighting ability obviously has won him many fans here. He never offered quality , it was always hard work, grit, determination. Sort of Gattuso without those extra hard tackles for me.
