Poli: "Wearing an Inter shirt is a great honour"
"I really am very happy. It's a great honour for me to wear this shirt and I'll do everything in my power to deserve it. This is a fantastic opportunity for me," were the first words spoken by Andrea Poli as an Inter player, exclusively on Inter Channel.
"There are terrific players here at Inter and I'll be trying to learn as much as I can from them. I can't wait to get down to work and I'll do so with determination and give it everything I've got," added the midfielder, who was then asked to talk about his role: "I don't really like talking about myself, but anyway, I'm a central midfielder and can play both in attack and in defence."
Poli was then reminded of a match between Sampdoria and Inter in the 2009/10 season. It was one of his first matches as first choice and Inter lost: "We won 1-0, I remember it ... [Andrea almost blushes, Ed]. Samp played very well against a great Inter side, with Mourinho as coach, who went on to win the treble. I remember it was a thrilling game."
Which midfielder does Poli draw inspiration from? As an Italian, two other Italians spring to mind: "Pirlo and De Rossi, fantastic players. I still have to gain experience and improve and I hope to do so here at Inter."
Now that he's an Inter player naturally Andrea can't wait to get out onto the pitch, although, he explained, "in the Coppa Italia match against Alessandria, I had a slight muscular problem so I probably won't be fully fit for about another three weeks or so. I'm sorry about that. It's the only flaw in these wonderful few days."
