If I recall correctly, I remember reading numerous stories throughout the season that Juventus wanted to hand full ownership to Genoa...if that's the case then really it wouldn't be that hard to get him.
I agree with you about Kolarov...there would be no sense in trying to match Real Madrid's bids and I don't think Inter would get into those situations. Point is, if we don't get Kolarov, there are other options just as good, if not with the potential to be better than Kolarov.
There were rumours saying that Juventus had wanted to hand full ownership to Genoa and us to get him from them but at the same time there were also rumours saying that he would love to play for Juventus and might be called by the club as well. If he is really that good, it would be interesting to have both Santon and him.
As for Kolarov, it would be a pretty interesting transfer saga this summer. I also think that a bit would depend on the relationship between Inter and Real and what gentleman agreements were made when Mourinho was allowed to leave Inter last week. There have been few rumours circulating around, with some saying its the whole €16million OR €8million + future transfer deal OR €8million + ??. What I meant to say is that unless Kolarov is not a MUST BUY player for them (i.e C.Ronaldo, Kaka), Moratti-Perez might also have had a discussion on this topic, like say - Real not to bid for Kolarov ?? lol ... Then again, it also depends on our future coach.
EDIT - Btw, Real has also been rumoured to Vargas. So, I am still hopeful that we could be able to sign Kolarov IF the management and the future coach fully agrees for the transfer.
But as far as I'm concerned, there is no replacing Maicon.
No Ramos, Alves, Ivanovic, Santon or Aguirregaray can replace Maicon because Maicon is the best, most balanced RB in the world.
So I don't understand this talk about Santon or anyone replacing Maicon.
My point is, Santon is not going to play like Maicon, regardless of what flank he plays on. Sure he may be more comfortable on the right but Santon is far more like Zanetti than Maicon anyway. Calm and composed, comfortable on the ball and generally solid.
The point of discussing this topic is IF Maicon is sold to Real.
And I totally agree that Santon.
