He misses some chances as well, but he was decent in his overall contribution.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say his form against the truly top teams (outside of Italy) is a bit worrying. Unfortunately he looks either low on confidence or a bit too slow in the biggest moments.

The first big chance there is no way Lautaro doesn’t take that first time if he’s playing against Lecce for example. In the big game he takes and extra touch and then miss hits it. Same with the eventual Arnautovic goal. He missed to massive opportunities in this match. Missing one is “ok” however missing both in the manner he did is not acceptable for a world class player.

I will give him credit for his hold up play today. He did really well with his back to goal winning fouls. Arna overall actually played better than him in the second half though. Despite his absolute shit finishing.

Ffs let's not make a big deal out of it. Even greater strikers than him have missed far more crucial moments in their careers. Lautaro was never known for being the most clinical out there. He pulled incredible numbers this season, but that doesn't mean he has to score every match two goals or more. He's actually been good in overall, but it was not his day.

He scored in 4 out of 5 toughest fixtures we had in CL last years.
Real Madrid away, Barcelona away, Liverpool away and Milan 2nd semi. Only failed to score in the CL final.

Why do people expect 15 CL goals per season from the guy? Who from Inter does that? Who generay does that? He scores when it matters and the team isn't worse off when he doesn't because he works his ass off!

15 in 51 in europe isn't an off day.

He had an off night. We have another leg to play and he often scores in important moments when he does score in Champions League. You guys need to cut him some slack.

Here’s the thing. 12 goals in 42 games isn’t good enough. I don’t care how you slice it. No one is asking for CR7 type numbers in the CL. Lautaro this season has 2 goals in 7. Last season he had 3 in 13. Rasmus Hojlund has 5 in 6 games as a 20 year old playing for a shit United team. Joao Mario has more CL goals this campaign.

My point is that there is obviously something lacking in translation from Serie A to the Champions League. And International competition as well but that’s a story for another day.

I agree your point initially but there was no need at all to bring up Joao Mario and Hojulnd to the comparison.

But I do agree that his overall performance needs to some kind of improvement in those crucial games against the bigger clubs. Today and the final against City were great examples. I’m Lautaro number 1 fan but I have to be demanding.

I'm fine with Lautaro not scoring as much if he always has this kind of influence.
Because for the opponent's defence, he is always a problem.
When he's your main goal scoring threat, he needs to score.

If he wasn't completely potato last night this time would be over.

We need to shed our traumatic past and accept the reality of currently being protagonists in Europe, and that means that certain responsibilities come along individually. What was expected of Inter's starting striker in 2018 when Lautaro arrived is not the same as what should be expected of one in 2024. It's not outrageous at all to downright expect him to close at least one goal per game when his teammates create so many chances per game for him.

A comment from United's forum described him really well.

Lautaro seems like a current day mid-20s Zlatan (in terms of reputation over here, not playing style!). As in the undeniably impressive domestic record on Serie A, but as of yet always seems to fluff his lines in the Champions League and the World Cup.

Was hoping he would be more impressive last night given how he is tearing up Serie A this season, but still looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights when he was through on goal.

Is always lively and helps to create his own the chances through his pressing and movement though, it's just the end product has always been missing when I've seen him. So I can sort of see the comparisons that James Horncastle was making between him and Luis Suarez before the game, and was hoping he would finally finish some chances just to shut Joe Cole up who clearly has never watched any Serie A like the rest of us. But until he starts banging then in in the Champions League he's not going to shake this reputation.

Now Luataro is perfect for us, but if the club gives him 10 mln salary, the criticism will be there for every small detail.
I believe that after this season his value will be the highest so far, so if he doesn't lower his demands, now will be the perfect time to sell him.

Just chill guys, we played against the best defensive side of Europe at this level. He got his chances in the box even if he was playing quite deep.

Unrealistic expectations is just so annoying. Like Arnautovic apparently "wasting" his first chance. The second sure, blamw him for taking it over, but instead of applauding the effort in his first everyone was whining it didn't go in ffs!!

I mean I get by this point half the people here never kicked a ball at any age or level, but ffs guys you're watching football for years! Chill the fuck up...

I saw Lautaro confessing after the match that in that first great chance he was going to one-touch it but changed his mind quickly. To me it indeed looked like a chance you should one-touch.

I wouldn't be worried about Lautaro. He's not a clinical finisher so it is what it is. Strikers can be world class despite not finishing clinically. He will learn from these aswell and will probably be a better finisher tomorrow than yesterday.

In general, agree with @brehme1989 that people need to take chill pills when it comes to players missing chances. Good teams can create tons of chances and they don't win every match 5-0. That's football.

Cut him some sluck. Atletico's stikers couldn't even make a single chance yesterday!

We looked very dangerous. Lautaro had a great game, but this time his opponent was Oblak ffs!
And i can't never really get the idea that if we scored all those chances, we would win 3:0?
Do you really think that we would play the same and made the same chances after the first goal, for example? Nope!

Meh I’m not worried about it. When Lautaro is clutch, he is CLUTCH. He has shown that he would go through a spell of not scoring and then when he hits that form he just keeps going. At this point I have accepted that he will have games like this and then turn up when we need him like some RNG striker with a great outcome and low disappointment. This season has been his most consistent ever, in fact I would say that this is the first season where I feel like he has hit the standard I have personally set for a world class striker  so I can simply get over this as just a world class striker not having a good day. My gut feeling is he will step up in Madrid, just watch.

This gets me everytime.
Only thing that beats this was the gobbi excuse of "we beat you 3-0 so if you got a penalty in the 20th minute (at 0-0), it'd just be 3-1". Lots of subscribers to that nonsense.
