Greetings from Split, Croatia. I am Inter and Serie A fan from 1995. What worries me is that there are no more young italian class players, like in those days :depress: I am aware that scouting has become more powerful and that clubs, including Inter, have more and more young foreign players in their squads. But what happened to Italians ??? Remember Totti, Nesta, Cannavaro, Montella, Cassano, Pirlo, Buffon... they were all world class players despite their young age. Ok I heard about Destro, but he went on loan to Genoa, and who knows what will become of him (remember Aquafresca), Biraghi, that Fossati went to Milan and so on... First I think all of them are overrated and second I see more young foreigners given chance in seniors while italians are send on loans or sold for few euros. Especially in Inter. OK some will say, that was talented generation back then. I agree, but it's clubs fault that today there are no talented italian youngsters. First they don't give them enough chances, and second they give up them to easily. And it was strong italian base with class foreingers that made Serie A great back then. God how I miss those great days.... forza Serie A, forza Inter !

Actually you are right in everything you say . In my opinion it's not inter, milan , juve fault. THese have and will always try to win in every manner possible without giving too much importance to the fact of validating italian youngsters.
It's the small clubs that should be blamed for this. Clubs like catania for example who have 13-14 argentinian players , or bologna of last year who had only over 30 players . THis kind of clubs who have no title objectives should try to validate italian youngsters in order to serve the country and at the same time to take profit from their future sales because italian players cost more than foreign ones when in the same level . THey should follow the example of clubs in your country like hajduk and especially dinamo zagreb that every year sells a good croatian talent in bigger clubs.

Actually i don't :D
You must notice that none of the players that you mention were inter players and we didn't use to win so much back than (actually we didn't use to win at all :p)

LOL I agree with you, about old times :) ...I ment I miss having more class players in Serie A especially italian. I totaly agree about small clubs. With high expectations top clubs cant wait for youngsters to mature (only one or two if they are supertalents)... look at balotelli for example, world supertalent, and yet he played to little last two seasons. The story with Hajduk, Dinamo and small clubs in cro league is that they dont have money (except Dinamo) and have to sell players...the result is that in all clubs you have 70 - 80 % young players (most of them domestic) and they are standard first team starters. Combine that with some talent and you have a bunch of promising young players. I m not saying that low level clubs in Italy should have that much youngsters in their first teams, but couple of them plus few older profesionals and you could have good team and probably with lower budget for salaries. And what is result with current Serie A policy: disaster on WC and in euro U 19. You saw cro U 19, we almost got through in final, but those guys all play in our first teams. I know that cro league is't that strong but it is stronger than primavera competition. How many ita youngsters play in Seria A. I wouldnt make big mistake if I say zero ! Young italians must play more in Serie A !!! And Italy needs to invest in youth facilities and academies like Germany and France did.

SE SALTELLI....
there shouldnt be double standards here..no matter if a club is big or small, weather fighting for relegation or trying to win the champions league, their squad is based on the players they need. its totaly unfair imho that the blame should be put on the smaller clubs.

OK maybe we are using double standards... but you must admit that it is odd that small clubs have so little young italian players...they rather have few older ones mixed with foreingers with suspicous quality. I would like that Inter have 3-4 young italians in first team but pitty this can't be. Look at Juves example. When they come back to Serie A, instead investing in youth players and rebuilding team in 2 or 3 seasons they tried to be champions right away and they splashed big money on diego and melo and ignored their youngsters like criscito, giovinco. It's just that boards in top clubs are like that, want results in short term. No one wants to wait for few seasons. The same with Milan. They could have outflood this oldtimers and rebuild team, and wouldn't be more bad than last few seasons :) ...so this is whay i I agree with junior55 that smaller clubs are chance for young italians to play. This way they are loaned and still dont play, or play very little.

SE SALTELLI....
sadly football nowadays revolves around to much money. its a huge risk to play a team made up predominantly of local young talent...

they would rather go with tried and tested professionals who they know they can rely on to a certain extent.

Santon, Bonucci, Ranocchia, Balotelli, Macheda and a few more. Don't think the young players are bad really.

Sirigu, Marchiso, Marco Motta and I'm sure Giovinco would have been better given more chances. The players are there.

Everything is changing, Man U for example used to have 5-6 homeground players representing England... and now not one of their 1st team English players are homeground....(Phil N already in the 1st batch)

To be honest, I think this is just a lie that Lippi and the media made up to cover his horrible world cup.

I am not italian but I get so much pleasure when an italian club discovers an italian wonderkid, I dont think the quality is not there but that enough time is not given to them, just look at Bonucci, if he had stayed at Inter I would bet that he wouldnt become half the player he is right now. Though its double standards to accuse the smaller teams of doing the exact same thing the bigger teams do, they dont bring in foreigners of enough quality, if you can get good players from within, why would you spend money to get foreigners of the same quality or less (barring some exceptions though).

there is talent, and to spare, it's just crappy lippi who didn't call up the ones which deserved it more blinded by his favouring of juve, etc. I mean when you ned speed in attack pazzini could provide it but he stuck with deadbirck iaquinta, defense I can name a few who could have done a better job than cannavaro, and not to mention the terrible marchetti.........

It is weird because Italy, England usually have pretty crappy youth teams and National teams are not that bad. Like I can't remember Italy or England ever doing all that great in any youth tournie.

Youth talent doesn't always translate. Colombia is the 3rd best youth producing country in South America nad our senior team blows

I think it's happening in England as well. If you look at several of the clubs fighting at the bottom of the table, those clubs have mostly English players.
