Vs Meelan

PUMA: €30m per year ➤ Emirates: €30m per year ➤ MSC: €5m per year ➤ WeFox: €7m per year

Total : 72M€

👀

Which isn’t all that impressive real receive 70m and Arsenal 45m for Emirates alone, it is the latter we take over from so it’s a 15m savings for Emirates. Juve I believe get €51m from Jeep.

It’s not more than a top 15 deal, it’s not all that impressive in 2024… we are paying a rather hefty price for being Italian and having the owner that we have, this is absolutely the lowest possible barrier you should expect.

Like Lebron James for example appears to be the most popular NBA player of all time now but if I pick 1,000 random people from 150 countries, I bet you that the recognition level would be under 10%. Do that 25 years ago with Michael Jordan and the recognition numbers would be more like 70%.
Not particularly pertinent to the discussion, but this is the boomer-y-est of boomer takes

Lebron James is a massive international star in a world that is more hyper connected than ever with high speed internet (just not in the USA) and access to cheap computing.

Obviously Jordan was a massive star but I guarantee you the difference would not be 7 fold.

Jordan played in the 90s.

Lebron peaked in the 2010s.
You don't compare current popularity between the two, but still Jordan would still win in a random international poll.

Lebron's popularity is measured in social media following and "clicks", Jordan's popularity is just unmatched. Honestly, since the NBA is "locked" now and can only be accessed through sat/cable channels and NBA TV, all of this is contained within a bubble of this fanbase.

I don't see NBA players appearing in ads in Europe anymore. I used to see Hakeem Olajuwon (Kellogg's?), Grant Hill (Sprite), Shaq was everywhere and so many others. You knew these guys even if you didn't follow the NBA. Now who's really famous outside of the NBA following? Anyone who dates some popular woman gets exposure to another part of the population.
I dare say that even within the USA the % of people who can tell who Lebron James is is definitely much lower than the equivalent of Jordan in his final season (and I'm talking 2003 here).

Media concentration also meant that everyone got the same exposure to news, just decided what they were more keen on. Now you filter out anything you don't wanna know. And guess what? A huge part of the world doesn't wanna know much about the NBA or basketball in general.

Lebron James has 160m followers in the age of Instagram. I dare say that at most x3 of that would be able to recognize him and x4-5 would recognize his name. Obviously that's a lot, but with Jordan that was definitely over a billion people at the height of his popularity and he's definitely 'immortal' in the sense that too many kids who never watched him know and can recognize him, because of the legacy or just the sneakers.

Lebron will never be that.

Think Elon Musk. Everyone knows the guy. You're in a cave, you've probably heard of him. That was Michael Jordan.

Ever heard of Nikola Karabatic? He's probably the greatest handball player of all time. You probably don't know or recognize him. Because you don't follow the sport. He's still the most popular guy within that environment. But if you ask someone who claims he follows several sports, he's probably never heard of him either unless he's into handball or at least paid attention to sport a couple of times in big tournaments.

Well, that's how the vast majority feels about Lebron James. Probably never heard of him if they don't watch basketball or stick when the sports news are on in May/June during deep playoffs/finals times, because honestly that's the only time most of the world shows NBA stuff. And that's not everywhere in the world, either.

P.S:
Not the greatest video out there but at least it's a basic example:

It's in Spain and basketball is probably the #2 team sport there.

We're going to do this.

Meaning we need to terminate LeoVegas deal, paying some fee to them probably. Then we need to replace them. But we can possibly replace them with a better deal, nullifying the termination fee and maybe even adding on top of that.

My only nitpick is that I've never met an American who doesn't know who LeBron James is. Even my women coworkers who have never watched a sporting event in their life can identify him.

Can we stop advertising betting companies? This is not the most ethical thing to do and I know some people who ruined their lives because of their betting addiction. As Inter we should strive to make the world better not worse

Of course.

Just like every person in China knows Ni Ni but if I had to poll every FIF member I'm pretty confident that we'd get 0.5% acknowledgement. Yet she's more popular than Lebron James globally if we talk pure numbers

No, not everyone. The name maybe, but they cannot recognize him in a lineup unless everyone else is white and 1.60m.

In the UK they began to find who he is in the last 5 years because he's mentioned in a lot of movies. So just the name.
Then the Lakers move happened and more people got to know his name.
Then the silly Space Jam remake, so more people, maybe not that much more though.

10 years ago I was referring to an alien apparently because no one had a clue and I was based in London and half the sample were northern Europeans who to an extent know what basketball is. They thought I was talking about some French dude.

Kobe is far more popular than Lebron internationally and his death only made that hit a lot harder.

I invite you to ask as many people you can in London who don't follow sports if they know Lebron.]

As an American friend said to me: Lebron is basketball famous, not world famous.
And he's right.

Problem is that even if the basketball bubble has gotten bigger due to opening to new markets, it gets much less respect than 20 years ago and that shows from the American tv ratings as well.
They use these League Pass metrics which is a silly method to measure viewers and popularity. If anything it just shows that rhe whole thing is becoming more of a closed bubble than something that would appeal to outsiders.
And that's wjy there's probably never been an ad that featured Lebron James in any country other than the USA, Canada and maybe China. He's not popular enough (for his cost obviously)

P.S. Surprise, but Tom Brady is a more recognizable name than Lebron James in the general public. Being next to Giselle has its perks.
Surprise #2, no one cares enough about either.

Ask all the girls, anywhere

Guys, Lebron James invested in Liverpool and an official from there told me that less than 10% of their local fans had heard of the name before

You must be delusional af saying that Tom Brady is more recognizable than Lebron. I’m not American by birth but I have been living in the US of A for a long time and even my mom and dad who speak only Russian know who Lebron is.

No need to ask.

Lebron James himself is more popular than the entire NFL. Anyone following American sports would know him over Tom Brady.

What % of the world follows American sports?
And how many people know who Guselle is? Do you even conceive how popular she is?

Let's set some things out.

In the 90s, there were two religious names that came up, then Michael Jordan, then the Pope, then Michael Jackson, then Diana, then the Clintons and then probably Madonna.

Lebron is nowhere near this stratosphere now even with social media. But guess what? Gisele is... And so is her husband who probably every man alive would love to replace. And every girl that's envious of her.

It's a whole different level..
NFL's Tom Brady is as insignificant as any "NFL famous" star.
Gisele's Tom Brady is a bigger name in the world than Lebron James.

Girl focused, fashion or gossip websites talk about Tom Brady. They don't talk about Lebron James.
And they have more following than sports sites and channels.

And in reality the "difference" is 100% versus 99.9%.

I'd say it's 99.9999% to 80%.

Doubt the average meemaw in Texas knows who Lebron James is.

8% never heard of him apparently in this research and 20% heard of him but have no opinion, so within that 20% I reckon there's a few who don't actually know of him.
