What was really bad was the run. He was way too close to Alexis and didn't even think for once to move further to the right to make that defender completely useless.
An example that I like is this goal by Djibril Cissé vs Roma, someone who Lukaku should look to copy with off the ball movement given that he has a similar advantage with speed.

At 41" you can see how wide the move is, how far from the concentration of defenders and one simple through ball makes this run a huge one on one chance.
With Lukaku we keep seeing the opposite. He either keeps running centrally, or very close to the ball, he wants the ball at his feet and he manages to stay surrounded by the defenders as his movement is poor.
The irony is that whenever he pulls off moves like that Cissé run I mention, he does quite well. And he usually fucks up most of everything else.
