Wow, this Branca thing is new.

I remember Motta pushing to leave but at the time he was a player we depended on so much, no wonder we went down the crapper when he was gone.

Eternal underestimated hero. We really could have used him another four years or so when you see the crap we've got in return: Gargano, Kharja, Kuzmanovic...

I'm pretty sure the months before Motta was sold most peope of FIF wanted him to leave.

He wasn't doing well, he looked unmotivated and not interested..also in an interview today he said he also wanted to leave because it was an opportunity for him.

I'm pretty sure last season he would still have been one of our best midfielders at the age of 34, if not the best.

T. Motta - Cuchu Cambiasso, che coppia. Tactical class at it's finest.

He was injured for a long time before we sold him.

We barely got a glimpse of Motta under Benitez and then he got sold midseason.

FIF in general was never very fond of Motta until late on in the triplete season. Because he wasn't flashy in anything he did.

For me he was the Cambiasso IQ equivalent on the ball, while Cambiasso was a class on his own without the ball in possession.

I think I remember his first game back from injury under Leonardo when we smashed Napoli. We really should have held on to him.

He carried Rainieri's Inter to a 7 game winning streak before leaving, he was indispensable, we signed an injured Guarin instead.

Motta all set for Genoa
By Football Italia staff

Thiago Motta has accepted Genoa’s offer to become their new Coach, replacing Aurelio Andreazzoli.

Motta met Genoa on Monday afternoon, and Sky Sport Italia reports the deal is “all done” for the ex-Italy midfielder to take the reins.

Tuttomercatoweb, meanwhile, writes his appointment will become official tomorrow.

The 37-year-old played for the Rossoblu during the 2008-09 campaign, rebuilding his career as he earned future moves to Inter and Paris Saint-Germain.

He retired from professional football at the end of 17-18 and spent last season coaching PSG’s Under-19 team.

Although his tenure ended over the summer, it went viral after he spoke of his desire to adopt a 2-7-2 formation without a goalkeeper.

Motta will coach a Genoa side who have lost six of their last seven games, resulting in Andreazzoli’s demise.

He may opt to promote U17 boss Roberto Murgita as he currently does not possess the qualifications needed to manage in Serie A.

While Motta would have been an intriguing option in the summer, i believe he's a risky choice right now considering Genoa's current condition. Anyway, i always liked him as a player so i wish him the best. Good luck Thiago!

I always felt we moved him on too early. I loved the quiet but effective way he went about his work. He worked tirelessly in our midfield and was a pleasure to watch. A really good player.

I do not think Inter realised and valued what they had in Motta until he left for PSG. What's the saying? "Sometimes, you don't know what you have got until it's gone".

I seem to remember whatever coach we had at the time telling the management 'whatever you do in January, don't sell Motta' and then, well, we did exactly that. It took us moving Brozovic to that metronome role to finally replace him, some 6 years later

Anyway, big up Thiagone managing Go-Go Goran. They've got Juve in 8 days.

I don't know what had pissed me more in that transfer window. The fact we sold Motta or that we replaced him with Angelo Palombo and an injured Guarin :palm:

Motta demanded a transfer in January if I remember correctly. He saw the writing on the wall of the club decline and wanted out ASAP.

This is from an older interview of Motta:

Thiago Motta left Inter for Paris Saint-Germain in 2012 under something of a cloud.

“I was happy there, but certain people didn’t agree with me. I specifically mean Marco Branca, who was director of sport at the time with Lele Oriali. He did not agree with the fact I was at Inter.

“I didn’t feel the same confidence in me and, with the chance to go to PSG, I told myself I could go where there was a future for me. (Former President Massimo) Moratti was always a gentleman with me. He listened to what I had to say and we reached a deal.”

So he won the first game and to top it off, everyones favourite treble winner Pandev scored. I think someone with his character would have a pretty good managerial career. Not many people have the mental strength to climb to the top again and again after all those injuries.

All three of his subs scored. It also just hit me that he’s coaching Pandev. What a world.
