Guys, i am thinking of signing up for a Paypal account. But before i do, i need to know how it works. So for anybody here who has a Paypal account, and has done transactions over the net via Paypal, could you kindly explain to me how it all works? And also, is there any payment involved to Paypal? Or is the signing up free, and consequently any charges incurred through transactions? :)

Ciao,
Tim

I made a paypal account to purchase an inter shirt that i saw on ebay earlier in the year. The transaction was good but it involved many steps.

They usually ask for your credit card and a pin number if applicable. When you first sign, they will give you a limit that you can use to purchase stuff untill they verify everything. I had a limit of $100 or so to buy the shirt and i used some of it. Then it appeared on my credit card report and i paid it.

Then, like a month ago or so, they sent me an e-mail to verify my account at paypal because they were protecting customers from fraud. I was busy and i missed the deadline and now i have to creat a new account.

All in all it was a good deal but it was kind of hassling. I hope this helps.

Paypal is one of the safest ways to buy stuff. It doesn't tell the person you are trying to purchase from your credit card.

I have bought many things from eBay and all my transactiong go to my parents bill and you can see everything as it is.

According to Hamed, i might have missed the e-mail to confirm my account. That sucks, next time i want to buy something on the Internet i will probably have to re-register. I am not a big guy on buying stuff, let alone via Internet. The only thing good is the cheap jerseys on eBay, but since my birthday is right around the corner i could afford to go to the local footie shop and buy myself a home jersey.

Thanks guys.

So let me get this right - Paypal is the conduit for internet transactions that use the Paypal service? You pay the amount and Paypal verifies that the amount is sent, and then the transaction can carry out? Is that correct?

Also, are there any charges involved to become a member? :)

I appreciate the replies, guys.

You're right. You can send and get money via Paypal, it has some confirmation code.

Also, it's free of charge. :)

BTW, i am not the most informed person but these are just basics. Go and take a look at their site, overall it's a great thing to use for the Internet.

Yes, you can buy anything online and then pay through paypal.

I think there is a slight charge but nothing major. I found it safe and the transaction was smooth.
