QA: Paul Ince

The Inter Milan job could be available in the summer. Have you applied yet?

I’m not sure it is now. I’m devastated because Roberto Mancini has changed his mind and decided he’s going to stay. My eyes did open up wide when he said he was going, but I’ve got another two years years left on my contract at MK Dons.

But you’ll get there one day?

Definitely. As a player you have ambitions, you want to play for the biggest clubs and your country and it’s the same for managers. Hopefully, one day I’ll manage Inter Milan. The fans there love me and I love them.

So, you won’t be applying for the United job when Sir Alex Ferguson steps down?

In an ideal world, if someone offers you a job in the Premier League then you’re not going to turn it down, but I don’t want to be one of those managers who’s in the game for 20 or 30 years. It’s going to be ten or 15 years maximum for me. I’ve got a wife and kids and I spent so much time away from them as a player that I don’t want to do that as manager.

How many of those ten or 15 years are going to be spent at MK Dons?

There’s been a few situations with other clubs, but I came here to do a job and there’s still a lot to do. It’s not just getting out of League Two, it’s then getting out of League One — that could take two years, or it could take five.

What kind of manager are you?

I’m my own man. I don’t want people to say that I’m a Fergie-type manager or a Hoddle-type manager. Paul Ince is Paul Ince, he’s got his own style of management. People thought I was mad when I went to Macclesfield Town. They thought, because I was a big name, I should put my feet up and wait for a big club, but Paul Ince is not like that. Paul Ince, the footballer is gone, this is a new chapter in my life.

Looking forward to leading your team out at Wembley on Sunday in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final?

Too right. I haven’t even been yet. I went Christmas shopping in London a couple of months ago and I drove past it, but I never envisaged that I’d be going there as a manager this season.

West Ham United, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Liverpool — whose results do you look for first?

Haven’t got a clue. I played for so many bloody teams that I’m always looking out for results.

Marcy whats the purpose of the thread.

Ince is smoking pretty good stuff, if he actually gave this interview. There are atleast a minimum of 135,685 coaches, that I would consider before even thinking about Ince. And I am not even kidding.

I really find it funny, on how he says he is devastated that Mancini is saying, as if he truly believes, he would have landed Inter's job had Mancini gone, or is Ince being sarcastic, even though it surely doesnt look like that.

Oh boy, the coach of Macaasfield (or however the f-ck it is spelt) thinking about Inter, have we really sunk this low?

People do talk a lot about Ince, cuase he was our last Britisher player. He was by no means a flop, but I hardly consider a player who has played only 2 season with us, a legend.

To label him an Inter legend is just silly. However Ince was loved by the fans and Moratti for what he did on the pitch week in week out. Also nothing wrong with having ambitions ;) Anyway he has a long way to go in order to fulfil that dream of his.

INCE EXPLAINS WHY INZAGHI IS SIMILAR TO KLOPP AND INTER’S ‘PROBLEM’ AGAINST LIVERPOOL

Former Inter and Liverpool midfielder Paul Ince previews tomorrow’s Champions League clash between his ex clubs, highlighting how the Nerazzurri’s defensive solidity will be crucial to beat the Reds.

The former England midfielder spent two seasons with the Nerazzurri before joining Liverpool in 1997. He scored 13 goals in 73 appearances with the Serie A giants and managed 17 in 81 appearances at Anfield Road.

Tomorrow, his ex clubs meet in the opening leg of the Champions League Round of 16 at the Stadio Meazza and although Liverpool are the favourite to qualify for the quarter-finals, Ince believes that Inter have a fair chance to go beyond the Round of 16.

“It’s a hard task, but not impossible,” the 54-year-old told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Inter’s problem is Liverpool’s attack. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané are not tired and Inter must pay attention to Jota and Firmino’s late runs. Inter must make the most of San Siro’s magic in the first leg even if playing at Anfield Road is not easy, Barcelona know it well…”

So, how could Inter beat Liverpool tomorrow?
“The wing-backs can cause trouble to Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold who can leave gaps at the back. Denzel Dumfries has been improving and Ivan Perisic is a certainty. Inter have quality everywhere.”

Ince praised Nicolò Barella, who will miss both games against Liverpool due to a two-match ban. Arturo Vidal will likely replace the Italy international tomorrow, but Ince believes the game ‘won’t be decided in the middle of the park.’
“There will be a huge battle in midfield, but I think that the duel between Inter’s defence and Liverpool’s attack will be decisive for the result.”

How about Simone Inzaghi? What does Ince make of the Inter coach?
“Here in England, Inzaghi means Filippo, but everyone knows Simone’s qualities now. I like his passion which makes him similar to Jurgen Klopp, who has accustomed Liverpool not to have fear.
“For Simone, it will be the best night to prove that he is a top coach. Inter are technically better than under Antonio Conte even if winning the Serie A title will be more difficult because there’s more competition this season.”

INCE ISSUES CONTE WARNING TO TOTTENHAM AND GIVES VERDICT ON LUKAKU’S INTER EXIT

In the second part of his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Paul Ince said that he’d never left Inter if he were Romelu Lukaku and insists Antonio Conte needs new signings to improve his teams.
The 54-year-old previewed tomorrow’s Champions League clash between his ex clubs Inter and Liverpool and discussed the Nerazzurri’s recent achievements under Antonio Conte. The Italian tactician won the Serie A title last term before leaving the Stadio Meazza by mutual consent.

“I was surprised [to see him leave],” Ince admitted, “but Conte needs new signings to develop his teams and he has the chance to be satisfied in England.”
Romelu Lukaku played a key role in the Nerazzurri’s title-winning campaign last term, but the Belgium international returned to Chelsea in a €115m deal in the summer.

“I had never left Inter if I were him,” said Ince.
“Everbody loved him in Milan and Inter were the perfect team for him. Now it’s much harder at Chelsea.”

Inter are one point behind Milan in Serie A but have a game in hand. Therefore, they’d jump to the top of the table by beating Bologna in a match that was rescheduled after the Rossoblu had been ordered into quarantine because of a COVID outbreak in their team in January.

Ince left Inter after just two seasons at the Stadio Meazza, joining Liverpool in 1997. Why did he leave the Nerazzurri?
“I spent the most beautiful years of my career in Milan, and I only left because of family reasons,” he admitted.
“I am still sad about it. I remember the bicycle-kick goal against Cagliari and Moratti, who would have kept me at all costs.
“I had an amazing relationship with my teammates, Paganin, Winter, Zanetti…However, the thing that I miss the most is the rapport with fans. I remember that after a victory in a derby, I hang around the city and felt like a king.”

Would be great if we got a thread for him even if it's not going to be very active. He's one of the few English players I've ever liked.

Takes a lot of guts for someone in his spot to preach the truth and hype down the Premier fucking League.
