if by some miracle Thuram chooses us instead of other logical options for him, send Lukaku's ass back to Chelsea and forget about him.

We should send him back to Chelsea regardless who we choose to sign to replace him. He doesn't offer anything anymore.

It's nothing like the same story as his first stint. He scored in his debut, he had 3 goals in his first 4 Serie A matches (including a goal in the Milan derby) and 7 in his first 10.
For the most part of those games it were.

His goals came later in the game and they were the only thing that made people not explode everytime he played.

The only difference is that the team covered for his deficiencies. Now because he's managed to make it all about himself and he has to perform, all eyes are on him and without the goals everyone highlights these things even more.

Being so unfit and so out of place mentally, this is just expected because the goals won't come.

I mean, you would remember that I was commenting on these things while everyone was jerking off.

His physicality is just gone. He is 100 kg, of course he will shield the ball now and then but so would a tree. He does not feel strong or fast (at least compared to his level when he got here) anymore.
This version of him is turkish league level at best. I was not thrilled at all he was brought back but at the same time i wasnt expecting his level of form/fitness to be this low. Dzeko is leaps and bounds ahead and he is one step away from retirement.

He's basically a glorified Petagna apart from costing the club over 3x more.

Petagna is more agile and has a better touch. Actually, Petagna would be an upgrade.

I realized Lukaku wasn’t able to exploit his pace yesterday when he was one v one against Sampdoria defence, which was one of his main traits.

The guy's coming off the worst injury in his career during which he was partially rushed to make the WC so didn't even fully recover. It'll take a while before he's firing on all cylinders. It's better this way, next year we'll loan him for free.

Have to say that this was Lukaku’s first start for a while. He needs few games in a row and a goal to get going. (and stay healty)

But yeah we play different style of football under Inzaghi than what we played with Conte and it seems Inzaghi can’t get best out of Lukaku? Lukaku is emotional player and need someone like Conte to get all out of him, with his counter attack football.

I also think our managment with Inzaghi got Lukaku insted of Dybala last summer cause of sporting reasons and few other reasons too?

I think they though that Lautaro, Correa and Dybala might be too similar (little midgets) and Lautaro/Correa + Lukaku/Dzeko would bring more different options at front? I also though Lukaku would bring us that running power and counter attack treath, but he don’t seem to be fit enough (constant injuries) and he don’t seem to fit to our tacktics.

There was also that Dybala has had many injuries in the past and Lukaku has not been this injured in the past… so that might have also affected our directors decision to get Lukaku instead of Dybala? I also think it was Inzaghi who wanted Lukaku instead of Dybala? This is pure speculation and only my gut feeling.

I think Dybala would have been exactly what we are missing currently. Ad to that one taller midfielder who can make runs inside the box hold the ball, plus one faster wingback + one faster cb, I think this Inzaghi team would actually work really good!

But yeah I was against getting Lukaku back as he wanted to leave so desperatly back in the day!

Everyone wanted to see that Lukaku in 2019/2020 season, it's a pity it didn't happen, the injury spoiled the end of his career, it is unlikely he will be able to return to the same level. We should focus on the development of Satriano and Esposito instead.

Even if Thuram doesn't pick us up, it's still better to buy Beto, instead to keep Lukaku for one more season.

I don't think people are being harsh on Lukaku for last night or his last few appearances, but it's more like general comments.

The only good thing he had was that he was scoring goals. He doesn't do that, so everything else is still there. And it's shouting louder because he's out of shape as well. And being in shape is the only thing that made him useful.

(2) - 1st minute goal against Benevento to go up 1-0.
(3) - 28th minute goal against Benevento to go up 3-0.
(4) - 29th minute goal against Milan to halve the deficit.
(5) - 64th minute goal against Genoa to go up 1-0.
(6) - 67th minute goal against Torino to tie things 2-2.
(7) - 84th minute penalty against Torino to go up 3-2.
(8) - 16th minute goal against Bologna to go up 1-0.
(9) - 94th minute goal against Cagliari to cap a 3-1 win.
(10) - 71st minute penalty against Napoli. We won 1-0.
(11) - 71st minute penalty against Spezia to go up 2-1.
(12) - 64th minute goal against Crotone to go up 5-2.
(13) - 67th minute goal against Benevento to go up 3-0.
(14) - 78th minute goal against Benevento to go up 4-0.

(15) - 22nd minute penalty against Lazio to go up 1-0.
(16) - 45th minute goal against Lazio to go up 2-0.
(17) - 66th minute goal against Milan to go up 3-0.
(18) - 1st minute goal against Genoa to go up 1-0.
(19) - 62nd minute penalty against Torino to go up 1-0.
(20) - 32nd minute goal against Bologna to go up 1-0.
(21) - 10th minute goal against Sassuolo to go up 1-0.
(22) - 90th minute goal against Roma to go up 3-1.
(23) - 35th minute penalty against Juventus to tie things 1-1.
(24) - 71st minute goal against Udinese to go up 5-0.

I have complained about Lukaku since he arrived at Inter. I did not want him back here on loan, and I certainly do not want him back again next season. It's some major revisionist history to sit here and say that Lukaku's goals in the Scudetto-winning season were just stat padding.

Of his 24 goals that season, only 7 of them were "stat pads." The other 17 were critical goals that either tied matches, gave us leads, or gave us necessary breathing room. If you remove the penalties, that takes him down 11 critical goals, which is a reasonable number for a striker playing for a top side. I also don't love dismissing penalties, as we've seen what having poor penalty takers (Lautaro last year) does to a team during a match.

Just for comparison, Lautaro scored 17 league goals that season. I counted 6 goals that are "stat pads" using the above criteria.

His stat padding came more in the first season than the second. He was far more useful in his second where we won the Scudetto. In his first he just wanted to score goals and he was mostly a hindrance otherwise.

In the previous post I wasn't talking about stat padding, but about him not being relevant in the game until he scored. And you've pretty much shown that 14/24 goals were after the hour mark (check when Lautaro was subbed out on average btw). 2 out of the rest 10 were penalties since you wanted to keep tabs.

So yeah, redo your work

He did make a peach of a hospital pass to Darmian in the second half.
