I wonder why don't Berardi take the penalties.

A costly penalty mistake. Its down to who'll score more in the last match. Swiss at home vs Bulgaria( Swiss won 3-1 in Bulgaria) or Italy AWAY in N-Ireland ( undefeated). There's a +2 goal gap still in place for Azzurri, but will it hold?

Playoffs are a total lottery ffs.

Choking Jorginho ffs

The book is out on Jorginho's wet noodle leg penalties. Let Berardi or Bonucci take them.

Hard to feel great about this going into the final match.

Chiellini is such a crucial character and leader to this team. I don't know who can replace him there. I mean of course no one in short-term but someone needs to rise to take the leadership.

Bonucci is a fucking bum compared to Chiellini when it comes to leadership.

Why stop at leadership? I think Bonucci is a fucking bum compared to Chiellini when it comes to defending too.

Reports are Berardi, Chiesa, and Insigne will start in attack, with Tonali replacing Locatelli in the midfield.

Still think a Bonucci handball was overlooked but agree playoffs are never a certainty. Then again, neither is getting 3 pts in Northern Ireland - they are incredibly complicated to break down. Bulgaria were outclassed against the Swiss so I expect 3pts and perhaps a chance to usurp that goal difference advantage of Italia

Italy game is only like an hour away from me. Was trying to get some friends to go but Irish catholics cheering for Italy in the northern Ireland stadium, we'd probably be kneecapped.
I'd be cheering not out of bigotry too, I support Italy against any other team that isn't republic of ireland (and even that's close because we are piss)

It will be tragicomical if Italy, after the European Champions crown and that record breaking streak fails to qualify to the WC. Imagine finishing second in the group and meeting Portugal on playoffs... ffs Giorginho :palm:

I don't blame Jorginho for the draw. Italy used to play fearless under Mancini so far, against the Swiss, Italy were timid. They played like they had too much to lose. Thats why they didn't win.

Winning in NI will not be easy, specially to almost match the score of the Swiss. I expect the Swiss to win by 3 or 4 goals, so Italy will have to win by 2 or 3 goals. Thats very unlikely considering Italy have never won away at Northern Ireland. Its most likely gonna be playoffs now, and thats always tricky.

Better come out with all guns blazing and jump on them early, or Italia maybe punished and end up in a playoff situation. Expect lots of complaints from Chiesa to get a foul in this one. Of course Barella is starting.

Too much pessimism, Bluenine. I don't think playoffs is a foregone conclusion. Switzerland only won by 2 goals last time around.

The real key here will be getting an early goal. Can't afford to let NI park the bus for 70+ minutes if we're in need of multiple goals.

Just one counter from NI, their defense looks leaky at times as well. 78% possession for Italia, so far.

Chiesa needs to stop taking on the entire right side of NI's defence on his own.

Take tonali off and put Belotti on. Need a presence up there. Will make all the runners more effective.

Good lord Mancini just yank Barella off, he's fucking gassed and it's the 38th minute.

We're making Northern Ireland look impenetrable :palm: (no offense to any Northern Irish on here)

Barella is obviously exhausted, thats why he has been out of form lately.
