Haven't watched Croatia in a while, but I remembered he played as their starting RM during the WC qualification games. That was way before his latest exploit, though. I think Brozovic-Modric double pivot would provide more balance compared to Rakitic or Kovacic in tandem with Modric.

When you have a midfield like Croatia I think your best option is to go with the diamond and just have Perisic + Mandzukic upfront

I think Rakitic will play alongside Modric and Kramaric will be second striker. Brozovic unfortunately benched.

This Kramaric guy is fan favorite and they want him instead of Mandzukic. Coach trusts Mandzukic so he benched Badelj who was DM alongside Rakitic before last preparation game with Modric like AM.

Brozovic and Kovacic were never in combinations to start though.

Came in in minute 60 to play CM.

Edit: he replaced SS Kramaric at time of Nigeria dominance. Gave balance to the team and raised Rakitic and Modric who were suffering alone in the middle against dominante athletes from Nigeria.

I would be surprised if they don’t start him against Argentina.
