What spending your prime years playing in the Rheinland does to a mf'er...
That and being too short for a GK. People always saw it as a massive weakness.

Maybe because you don't want another starting gk that is too old?Why are we interested in Donnaruma to replace him next season?
My main worry for him now is that he relies so much on athleticism and reaction time to overcome his small stature—this will inevitably become a problem the further he ages. I think he’s been very good overall this season and will finish the season strong as well, but I’m not sure he has another season as starter for us in him.
To label Sommer as average is an insult. Just because he didn't have a career of elite goalkeepers, doesn't undervalue his real ability. We are so blessed with him, although I do believe our defence makes things easy for any gk.
Hopefully his absence won't have a major impact in our results in the near future though.
That's simply not true. When we are playing our defense correctly, sommer barely has to intervene at all in terms of having some big saves. He is your meat and potato type of goalkeeper, really good, but nothing special in a sense that we could potentially fall apart without him. Our secret for a good defense is the way we collectively defend, even sommer admitted that on several occasions when people asked him about the clean sheets.Sommer mades at least 1 or 2 big saves, almost every game.
Then what about the save on coincecao last week? He does that often tbh., when we are conceding he's always there. I feel protected, can't say the same with this Martinez guy that never played and already showed to be not ready in the friendlies. That's simply not true. The only worry we should have is if martinez can't even do basic stuff right, which would obviously be a massive negative surprise, given that he has certain experience already.
Does he have any other choice? It's time for Inzaghi to show some trust.
Even then, Sommer had a wonderful career in the Bundesliga and with Switzerland, he just didn't get the most attention because of the teams he played for. I promise I'm not trying to be biased here when I say that, @Il Drago surely can vouch for his quality while in the Bundesliga.
That winless record of Bayern against Gladbach was due to Sommer. Disrespect the guy gets is unbelievable. He's not an Ochoa who just had few good games with Mexico. He was one of the best Bundesliga GKs for years, only second to Neuer.
