He is 19 and he was injured when he joined Marseille, did people really expect him to break into the starting lineup 1½ months into the season?

Marseille also has a huge squad this season, there is a lot of competition. That combined with him being injured when he joined + his age and inexperience obviously means he will be slowly integrated into the team.
Yeah we just talked about how lot of added offensive players and no euro games means less minutes for the guy.

Everyone has a point here.

In hindsight, I really believe he would’ve been better off staying at Inter. The main reason for going on loan to a smaller club is to get significantly more playing time. But if he’s getting the same amount of minutes at Marseille as he would have here, training with Inter’s squad would’ve benefited him and us much more.

As someone else mentioned, it’s not like Carboni lit up Serie A with his performances, but he clearly has the potential to become a good, if not great, player. More minutes at Monza would’ve been the ideal move. Looking at where he is now, I think he’d be better off at Inter. He would have gotten all the Correa minutes and some of the Arna ones. He can always play in wider roles sometimes.

And as for a potential January loan elsewhere, that would be career suicide.

I honestly dont think he'd compete with Arnautovic for minutes. Arnautovic is there to score goals - and in basically the same minutes as Carboni last year, he scored 7 goals where Carboni scored 2.

Correa, maybe, just by virtue of how shit he is

the problem is we just dont have a space for him to develop at Inter. A loan is the right decision for him, and tbh, Marseille put in a lot of effort to get him. Its all a bit bizarre - but as stated re Monza, maybe he just wasnt as good when you see him on a daily basis? I dunno

Loan in jan almost definitely needs to happen, but we might not be able to terminate him with Marseille as thery've had some cash IIRC

Yeah true, they paid 1m for the loan, so we can't do anything about the loan. It needs to come from the player and him to convince them to let him go if he doesn't get enough minutes.

But, we're at the start of October, it's like 4 months football before the end of January window. That's plenty of games. And it's good for the guy to be in more competitive environment, where he needs to

a) train hard to get even on the pitch
b) train in an environment where the club wants to win the title (vs. Monza)

The negative is what @brehme1989 has mentioned before is that Marseille might be a bit toxic place (where expectations might be unrealistic?) so if things aren't going well in the club, competitive environment might turn unhealthy.

Don't have one.
I honestly don't know how he even gathered the hype he gathered, given what he showed in monza. Yeah, he had a couple of decent games in national team, but still the hype for this dude was off the charts compared to reality.

all because of the national team call up at his age, tbh. all it takes is a bit of hype & one premiership club to show a bit of interest and someone's reputation explodes, the problem is you need to deliver quickly or else itll crash back down to earth (Satriano)

That Marseille team seems randomly made out of once upon a time talents or outcasts

Fiorentina offered like 20M to us last January, we said no. I don't know what the offers were last summer, not reaching 30M probably, we would have sold him for 35M for sure.

In general, we are unlikely to sell him for more than 5-7 million if he continues to show such level, and it will still be a good deal.

Marseille is too big for him. A lot of mid Serie-A teams like Monza, Como, Venezia, or anything like that are better path for his career.

Just rewatched the match, the whole game how he was used was basically magnifying all his biggest weakness, very weird of the De Zerbi, he was placed in the most congested area of the field, and he basically had to play lone striker after the red card (also why he was subbed, cause they need a striker), and even with this condition he was able to create something (might not be enough), didn't overdo it when the odds are not right to lose the ball, which most of his teammates did, cause they were trying to muscle or outrun the opponent.

Also I think people are forgetting he is only 19.

Thanks for the report. I also feel Carboni is maybe not at his best in the middle of the pitch and at this point fits more on the wing with space, where he can use his 1v1 abilities.

In such cases, Inter should put a clause in the contract that (loaned) player must play X minutes in X matches. If that's even possible, of course.

it *probably* violates rules around third party ownership/influence of a player

I don't think it does but I wouldn't understand any club as big as Marseille taking seriously such demand if it was taken to the converation in the transfer negotiations.

It's not like Marseille is some Serie B club who's getting some awesome talent on loan.
