Basically it's just a way to guarantee more top Vs top team games without forcing big clubs to get knocked out too early. The CL would lose a lot of appeal if big clubs went out a lot in the group stages, so this way they can have way more big matches without any real risk which is why we now have the kinda R32 leading into R16

Like @Il Drago said, this is just a fill-in for the Super League. You're making the large clubs play each other more frequently, because those are the matches that generate TV dollars. The smaller clubs are only here to avoid the mutiny.

Arsenal fans are cheering and considering us as weak pot 1 team, they remember Zaccheroni’s Inter, not Cuper’s Inter 😆

What I do like about this setup is that you're invested in pretty much all fixtures the same.

So I can say fuck PL teams and it'll have an impact as they're rivaling us for a qualification spot :D
What I like is there is no more cheering for Italian teams that some practiced (unless we are benefitting from that) They are all direct rivals now.

I'm less interested in the competition due to the new format. Big matches each week become regular matches.

I like we have a diverse opponents instead of playing the same club twice in a group.
I absolutely loath the amount of extra games. The additional 2 games in the midst of an already hectic fixtures is detrimental for players while it only benefits big teams who has greater squads depth.

Our drawing result is 8/10 in terms of difficulty. I wish we do not play all Leipzig, City, Arsenal, and Leverkusen, but there are still other teams with harder fixtures. And I still can't wrap my head around the fact Bologna the pot 4 team get an easier schedule :yao:

Pots are close to irrelevant, that's why pot 4 club can have easier schedule than pot 1 team.

There's a rivalry between Inter fans and Arsenal fans on twitter for a while. They have claimed there isn't a single Inter player who would start for Arsenal and people rate Inter only because of a lucky CL run.

Guess this match could settle the debate. :D

Our poor European record in the past decades didn't help this image. Not sure just one match is gonna settle this debate. We need to leave our mark in this competition more frequently, giving the big dogs a tough challenge and reach at least the semi finals more than before. Getting eliminated in the lower stages just to focus on the league is not gonna cut it.

Our CL records vs the big boys were...horrible. ATM Liverpool Real Bayern, Sevilla final... all lose. The only success was knocking Barca out of the group stage, but seriously overlooked as it was...only a group stage match.

We need to improve much more. Otherwise the outside world always has a reason to look down on Serie A.

And what have Arsenal done in CL to be rated higher? 2 quarter finals in 15 years. That's it.

There is CL powerhouse in Premier League, thanks to ManCity. Arsenal played well and proved against them.

Cannot say the same for any other Serie A teams. The only respected beside Inter is maybe Atalanta, and that's it.

Arsenal topping their group last year was also a bonus. Which Inter never did since...?!?

A group of PSV, Lens that finished 7th in Ligue 1 and worst Sevilla in ages? Are you for real? And that's supposed to be considered some great achievement?

Few thoughts after finally seeing the format and draw

- The format is made to have more big games, keep people interested.
- It also makes it more predictable with more matches and league format, and favours the big teams.
- Going by general league standings, about 15-16 points will be needed to finish in top 8.
- The next 16 teams will be in 9-15 points range.
- That playoff stage of the 16 teams will be super competitive, and probably more exciting than the earlier league phase. This will also be very uncertain.
- The playoff stage is where some of the lower ranked teams have the best chance if they avoid a truly big opponent.

We have to finish in top 8, to avoid that uncertainty. Get 16-17 points, and you're almost certain of it. This means we can do it with 5 wins and a couple of draws. Basically we have to ensure we beat the lower 4 teams, lose at max one big game (City away), and get a decent scalp from Arsenal or Leverkusen.

That same Sevilla whom beated us when the whole world was watching. While Inter were behind a CL newbie. Isnt good for the reputation.

Yeah not a great archievement, but Inter never did that.
