lets try a different approach.

Are you happy with what the youth team has delivered to the first team in the last few years, and what it looks like it will be capable of delivering in the next few years? Considering every season we spend the equivalent of Alvarez, or Motta, or Sneijder even on it?

It is way too early to tell. The players that we spent the bigger bucks on are still under 20 years old. You know for a fact that Livaja, Tassi and Alborno will never contribute to the first team??

A lot of the guys you mentioned were nothing too special until they hit 23-25 years old, or at least the better ones. I mean we do have players in that age range or younger that are playing in the Serie A, so we can produce some talent...

Biabiany - Parma
Bolzoni - Siena
Bonucci - Juventus
Dellafiore - Novara
Destro - Siena
Faraoni - Inter
Krhin - Bologna
Meggiorini - Novara
Obi - Inter

So 9 Serie A players in the last 7 years. I agree that it is a small number, but we have just recently been investing more money on the youth team. I don't remember spending the amount of money we recently have spent on young players, 5 or 6 years ago. I think this next class of players will be strong, but we cannot just write them off when they are 19 years old, Italian soccer is very tough for youngsters, so we should not have the same expectations from them as players coming though English or Spanish football.

You have high expectations and there is nothing wrong with that, because if this class of players only produces 1 or 2 strong players, I will be disappointed as well.

Of the list you quote, only Destro Bonucci Obi and Faraoni really look like being Serie A quality at the moment. The rest are with strong relegation candidates/not playing regularly.

I do agree that I do have high expectations, but you should too, in light of Moratti's ranting and raving about how the youth teams will be the future of inter and how this is going to be the holy grail for the club.

I also agree that its too early to fully write anyone off yet, but, from the last couple of seasons (Excluding players already sold), I only expect Stevanovic, Belec, and Bardi to potentially make something of themselves. The 'great' prospects from the last couple of years have gone on to barely even play at Serie B clubs, they arent getting experience, and they cant play in a side that small, how are they ever deserving of some kind of 'good' prospect tag at a Serie A side.

Like you say, we shall see... but for the money we spend on the youth team at the moment, and all the raving about the current crop, they have been very disappointing so far.

As a side note, Tassi doesnt even play for the Primavera despite all his hype, Alborno was pretty poor in the Viareggio cup, with only the occassional flash of talent (so much for some first-team ready next-Ronaldo like he'd been painted out to be), and Livaja i think has yet to score a goal for us? He's not exactly looking great either, to be honest.

I would be willing to bet on only one of the three above even getting more than 2 appearances for Inter in Serie A in the next 2-3 seasons. I hope I'm wrong, but thats my current stance.

Well Tassi just turned 17 three days ago, so he is with the Allievi squad. He has been injured most of this season as well, so this is a tough year to judge him. I still have high hopes for him.

Also, Parma is not a strong relegation candidate, so Biabiany must go in your list as well. And Bolzoni was becoming a regular for Siena before he got injured a few weeks ago.

Well, if he's had only 4 league appearances for Siena this whole season, I wouldnt say thats that regular.

Biabiany isnt an automatic starter for Parma, either, he's on the bench an awful lot (I check their line ups every now and then to see). Sadly theres no stats for him on the webpage, or else I'd go into more detail, but I think alot of his appearances have been as subs. However, I will conceed, Biabany deserves to be on the list at least, as an average Serie A player (at best)

Where do you keep getting this 4 from? Stop looking at Wikipedia!

Catania 0-0 Siena (19 mins)
Roma 1-1 Siena (90)
Novara 1-1 Siena (90)
Siena 4-1 Chievo (11)
Udinese 2-1 Siena (29) - Scored the goal
Siena 0-1 Inter (20)
Milan 2-0 Siena (90)
Siena 0-0 Fiorentina (17)
Siena 4-0 Lazio (90)
Siena 1-1 Napoli (90)
Fiorentina 1-2 Siena (36)

11 appearances and 5 starts. And he is not starting against the minnows, he played the full 90 against Roma, Milan, Lazio and Napoli.

Well, arguing over one player is moot anyway, so it makes no difference to the whole argument.

I generally find wikipedia well up to date for appearances.
