Last time we faced them we had a decent first half followed by that shameful second half, which is easily in the top 5 worst halfs we have had this season. Could have even sneaked away with an underserved victory hadn't Handas brain turned into mashed potatoes.

I'd go with straight 4-4-2 with Dalbert-Brozo-Radja-Candreva midfield and Icardi-Lautaro upfront. So far we were lucky with injuries. Vrsaljko could undergo surgery so Cedric can suddenly become our starting fullback.

Btw, with those Perisic rumours I am starting to fear about our top3 chances. As unambitious it can sound, I think we better concentrate on Serie A and not EL. Our squad is a bit thin with all the injuries and with additional exposure to European matches injuries will become very frequent. Carrasco is high-skilled but I wonder how much time he will need to adapt. Dalbert mustn't go now with Vrsaljko's surgery. Actually this will sideline him for 2,5 months at least so most probably we can return him to Atleti soon. It's time for Radja to repay the faith in him, otherwise our squad suddenly becomes inferior to Roma's or Milan's when all their starters come back from injuries.

Last time we played 3 man defence against Torino, Mazzarri tought Spalletti a lesson in how to play the formation properly and how to adjust your tactics, two things Spalletti has no idea how to do.

It makes sense though. J Mario has been used as a RM at Sporting as well as the Portuguese NT quite frequently.
We have seen that Lautaro just doesn’t work on the wings. It seems to me he only does well when he plays as a striker

I guess you are thinking about a 4-3-1-2, at least that is the first thing that came to my mind with the players that are available for this game. Icardi and Lautaro up front with Nainggolan behind them. To me there is nothing wrong with that, but I can’t recall Spalletti ever using this formation at Inter. Considering how unwillingfull he is to change his system he will stick to what we know.

I don’t disagree with your original comment in a sense that I would like to have a coach that is better at adjusting to certain circumstances. But for this game in particular I am pretty sure this is the best what is currently possible. Since most of our midfielders lack a football brain anyway I don’t expect us to win this game with a „new“ formation.
