Zhang and co. really fucked it I guess. Not sure about the payment terms by other potential buyers earlier on but it could had been profitable than being in this situation.

I said it several times, and someone will definitely pick this post and pin it right next to a very recent one I made in the opposite sentiment, but this is pretty much the caveat of having to deal with the Chinese in business when the alternative is to deal with Americans, even at the risk of getting into a bidding war.

We've had at least 3 offers in the last 12-14 months from some interested parties, but they couldn't get to the deal.

Oaktree on the other hand can gather 20 possible investors who are willing to offer 1 billion and discuss terms with more than 5 of them. In a week...

Why would they refinance early? Pay the restructuring fee as late as you can and ride out the rate you got when cost of funds were historically low.

Oaktree does not want to operate a football club and they do not want their capital back when they can get a double digit coupon on it via a fairly simple extension/restructuring. This is what they do all day. You guys have no idea how this works, you're all running around like chickens yelling that the sky is falling.
